Craig Loston playing time in 09?

From all the video I've seen on him and with the way he played in the Under Armour game, I just can't help but think that he will have a great impact as a true freshmen. What do you all think?

he'll def play some on D and alot on special teams

Special teams to start out and if Coleman/McCray can't perform at SS he'll take over starting there (and I hope he does if Coleman or McCray don't improve).

Over who? If they've moved Ron Brooks to Safety, he's gonna be behind him, Chad Jones, Karnell Hatcher, Danny McCray, and Harry Coleman. That puts Loston as the 6th safety at best right now.

he HAS to be better than miss the tackle Coleman. He co-stars in Morino's highlight reel.

I didn't mean right now. It was actually more of a "Harry Coleman needs to play ALOT better than he did last year" type of comment.

No doubt. I'm excited about Loston myself. I just think it's gonna be really hard for him to get on the field for any meaningful snaps. Unless he is just a complete badass from Day 1. I'm sure he'll play special teams and be a beast, but if he is going to be our 6th Saftey, I'd rather him redshirt to put a little gap between him and Brooks and Hatcher.
Also, what safeties redshired last year? I've forgotten.

He will be the starter by the end of the season=ala=patrick peterson..you can't hold great talent back 2 long..

he's on some sort of medically unable to participate status...I think they can move someone to this status and not count against the 85, kind of like Bama did with Prothro

Your opinion is wrong. He's only a risk when he's asked to play NB and cover a slot WR man to man. He's not a risk at S.

McCray was very good at safety last year. Prob. better than Chad Jones even. When he was in the 5 DB package matched up on a receiver was when he sucked.

Diffrence with PP and Loston is,
We lost two starting CB's when PP came in.
We have McCray, Chad Jones, Harry Coleman and Ron Brooks who have experience.
PP came in early and had spring practice reps while Loston is still in HS and won't be here until the fall.
Don't forget that Karnell Hatcher and S. Francois were just as good of prospects and have redshirted as well.

I would be totallly shocked if he redshirted, but he aint gonna start unless there's big time suckage or injury. Isn't he supposed to be a strong safety? If so, he won't be competing against Brooks or Jones.
I agree McCray does a good job at safety. And his coverage wasn't bad unless he was up against premier receivers.

there's a little bit of a difference in the 2 situations, Loston is great Safety, #1 overall maybe out of this recruiting class, and PP was #1 out of his class. But Peterson was ready to play the position from day 1 physically and mentally. He was polished coming in. He was a freak of nature. Loston isn't quite there yet.
