The only reason I could see Anthony looking into a medical redshirt for last season would be if rehabbing here with our new S&C team would benefit him in his recovery from injury and prepare him to make a last run at the draft next year. Maybe that makes sense for a guy who would likely be a FA pickup coming off an injury as things stand today.

If he does indeed intend to go pro, I could see the argument for coming back. Especially if he’s not going to be able to participate in the combine.. or even if he’s just not going to be 100% for the combine. He played well before his injury but there’s not much tape. That plus an injury without any combine performance to show that he’s fully recovered would (presumably) make it hard for him.

I’d love to have a healthy Anthony next year but he’s probably ready for the next phase of life. He’ll be 26 midway through next season.

I can definitely see why he might be done from his point of view.

I do think the “he’s so old though” fan reaction is laughable. At that age he’s probably at the peak of his physical development (or at least would be, if not for his injury). People are acting like he’s 35, not 25. We should be thrilled if he comes back.

He strikes me as a future coach if it’s something he wanted to do. He’s played for some good defensive and DL coaches.

Right. And because he wouldn’t be at his best trying to make a team as a potential FA, no agent is going to put up a bunch of money to help him rehab. He would have access to a great staff and facilities if he stays, plus he would have a shot to impress next season.

I won’t blame him for a second if he moves on, but after thinking about it, I also wouldn’t be shocked if he took advantage of one last ride to get himself right. And if he does, I hope he gets a solid NIL deal to support him and his family through it. He’s more than earned it.
