I agree that Henry was a dominant coach. We are still competitive in track, so football players have track options. Nobody knows the details od Henry leaving, but I think its a very small part of Skip's legacy as AD. It certainly is not a defining moment of his term.

we can get better football players if they are guaranteed the chance to run track
lsu has people in the olympics, people on national tv
i was at the mideast regional track meet, and there were people in attendance just to watch trindon. people know lsu has a dominant track program
and this is all now coming to a halt??

We are still very good in track. Football players still have a home at LSU. The Brady point was bad. The Laval point is not real good because everyone will judge Skip by Mainieri.

you cant be this naive
did you just not see what henry did at tamu
of course its not coming to a halt, we still have a program, but so does every other school
you are going to see lsu track fade away, mark these words down, and tamu will be the new lsu in track

How much did Pat want? How much is A&M paying him?
How much more is it than he was getting while at LSU?
I think you need that info before you can judge whether or not Skip made a good decision or not.

they were fricking good enough for pat to win double digit national championships with both men and women in his tenure
Point being he had to mostly recruit out-of-state kids.
NY, TX, Jucos, etc made up the vast majority of his teams.
He wanted the state of La. to support high school track like TX did so he could get some MORE home grown talent.
He tried like hell to promote high school track and generate interest at high school admin levels, but it never happened. It frustrated him.
LSU being the flagship would have benefited greatly with state high schools producing high interest in track and field, thus producing a bigger pool of athletes to recruit

having to recruit out of state as a reason to leave seems like a weak reason

Do you disagree with that? Really, please let me know.

you cant just pass over the smoke laval debacle when breaking down skip's coach hiring
HE WAS HIS HAND PICKED SUCCESSOR
skip said, "hey i want this fat frick to run my baseball program"...and smoke sucked,

People remember winners and Skip and Paul are winners. If Mainieri wins the Natl title that is what people will remember.

I listed other factors for his reason too in my first post.
I'm explaining the state support/recruiting aspect on my last.

I agree with you that Laval was a bust. Laval was hand picked while Skip was coach, not AD. If Laval does not do well, everybody remembers the good ole days with Skip...Skip looks good. As AD, (Skip did not know in 2001 he would be AD) Skip fires the "bum" (Skip looks good)and hires the winner in Mainieri(Skip looks good again). This is legacy and Skip is not the first coach to do it. Yes, Skip has a big ego, but winners can get away with it.

manieri was a good hire.
agreed

we can also thank Skip for using the good old boy network (Smoke) to nearly derail the program.

i just loled at that whole post. it was full of fail.
people will remember smoke and skip knew he was the ad. even if he didn't know he was the ad he hand picked him.
The skip can do no wrong crowd
