re: College Football: Phil Steele has LSU at No. 17!

Same thing as I would say this year. Preseason rankings are completely worthless.

This LSU team is being vastly underestimated by a lot of people, including many on the Rant. Mark my words, this team will not lose more than two games, more likely just one, with an outside chance at being undefeated. The contribution of Cameron isn't being given enough value.

We aren't top 10 at the end of the year I don't think. I wouldn't put us there to start for sure.

LSU only lost 2 regular season games last year. Virtually the entire offense is back with a seasoned senior QB leading the way and an actual offensive coordinator. What more do you want? Plus added receiving talent. The defense loses two star defensive ends and a safety whom all 3 at times did not even play up to their full potential last season.. I will admit losing the MLB sucks, but there is young speedy talent all over.. and with Chavis they will excel yet again.
LSU fans for the most part underestimate this football program. This is an always steady possible 2 loss to less team a season. Should have beat Bama and Florida last season. The only two games this season I am concerned over are Bama and UGA on the road. Both winnable. I am sick how every single season LSU fans are scared of Miss St and Ole Miss. Please remind me when either of these schools actually beat LSU. And A&M couldn't even beat LSU at home last season with their best team.

I think the reason people are underestimating this year's team is because of the unfamiliarity at depth on defense. I don't think anyone with any knowledge of the team can argue that the 11 starters on defense are going to be as good as anyone in the country, but the young guys behind them have people questioning the depth of the defense which has been a huge plus for LSU the past several seasons.
Personally, I think the recruiting classes have been good the last couple years, so I think the players behind the starters will be ready to perform.

Right and it is because of the defense. But just my opinion the defense is far easier to replace than offense with the combination of speedy talent LSU has and Chavis.
But for once the offense with the line is in great shape. Especially after they came together after the UF game when Hurst left. I know the Clemson game was a disappointment, but I take no stock at all in that game. Plus that defense got gashed with all those Juniors still on the team.. I am so glad JC Copeland returned and excited about Cam running the O.

quote:that's all hypothetical at this point and I have a feeling that this preseason ranking is tailored towards where he thinks LSU will finish this season. Which frankly isn't far fetched.

How is anything I said hypothetical? We have had top 10 recruiting classes each of the last 2 years. That is a fact. My feeling is that those guys will be ready to perform with the coaching staff that they have teaching them.
I haven't said one word bashing this guy's poll. I couldn't care less about one guy's preseason poll in June. It means absolutely nothing and is no indication of how the season will go.

I don't believe that is a fact. Our consensus class ranking was outside the Top 10 in 2012, as low as 18 on Rivals.

It was most certainly a top 10 class according to Scout.
In fact, I believe they had it as high as 6.

Sure, but the composite rankings accounting for all the recruiting services left us outside the top ten. In other words, it wasn't clear to all observers that our class was worthy of a top ten ranking. Rivals has the best historical correlation to on-field results (wins-losses, post-season honors, etc.) and, as I said, they ultimately ranked our 2012 class 18th.
Anyway, we'll just see how the kids perform on the field this fall. I hope they fill the gaps left by departing uperclassmen.

Ok call it a composite ranking of 18. That's fine. My original comment was just that we have had a good recruiting class the last couple of years and that I feel like they will be ready to perform based on the history of our coaching staff at getting younger kids ready to play on both offense and defense. I then used Scout's ranking to say that we had top 10 classes each of the last 2 years. I think we're splitting hairs here. Bottom line-the classes were both good like I originally said and I believe they will be ready to play.

Saying his (or anyone else's opinion) is ridiculous is....well, ridiculous.
To understand this simplest of concepts one must at least be somewhat impartial...which for plenty of LSU fans is literally impossible.

Someone else saying they don't think those guys will perform to amass a top ten ranking is no more hypothetical than what you said.

Please quote me where I said that something thatsomeone else said was hypothetical/dumb/irrational/ignorant. I will sit here and wait.
ETA: Looked at your last post. I hate little bitches like you that just try to go through a thread and call people out when you don't even know what has been said.
You should look up the definitions of hypothetical and opinion and write a thesis on the difference because you clearly don't understand that the two words don't mean the same thing.

I didn't say you did. But a guy calls you out on your statements & you get all defensive...."nothing I said is hypothetical" when you're entire argument is opinion and hypothetical.
Whatever, you think LSU will win the title every year and others are more impartial....you're free to feel that way.

LOL What argument did I make? I was talking to another poster and the both of us were in agreement and that poster decided to jump in - kind of like you have

Please quote where I said anything about LSU winning a title or even anything remotely close to that. I haven't made any statements pertaining to how I think LSU will do this season other than I think we have had good recruiting classes and I think they will perform well.
Go ahead and just admit it. You are trying to come in this thread and berate everyone that said they didn't like Phil Steele and that him having us at 17 is ludicrous, and you thought I said that.
GFY you judgmental count.
ETA:
Yep I was right. That is precisely what you are doing. Anyone that posts in this thread is apparently criticizing the fact that this guy has LSU at 17 even when they don't mention him. Some of your posts:
quote:
How much cussing would you all have had last year about a preseason poll that had LSU ranked in the 12/13/14 ...
quote:
No way there are 16 teams better than us...no way our talent is ever less than top 10." Same folks that were saying we would blow the doors off of Clemson....
quote:
would you have said the same thing about preseason polls last year that might have had LSU ranked lower than 10?
quote:
what would you have said about a preseason poll last year that had LSU in the 12/13/14 ranking area?..

We all hope LSU loses 1 or wins the National Championship. We all hope Cam runs a great offense. Here is the truth- writers aren't getting paid for hoping.
