I was surprised after looking at stats that our Total D is ahead of Bama's . . . prior to yesterday

Total D isn't a great stat, unless you like looking at raw totals. SP+ (formerly S&P) ratings take SOS into account and are much more efficiency based. Prior to last week LSU was #2 SP+ offense, #38 SP+ defense, and #2 SP+ ST.
LSU dropped to #3 on offense (oh no!) but is now up to 28 and 1 in defense and ST (oh yeah!).
