I'm not one of those "blitzing and man coverage solves everything" types, but I wish he'd just send the house more on 3rd downs. if we get beat so be it.

I dont think its just 3rd down failure thats the issue. The issue is that when its crunch time of the game and we need a big stop on D and we have the opponents offense in a 3rd and 7+ situation, then end up getting it.

We lost the Ole Miss game because of that. Sure Metts INTs put us in that situation, but we lost the game because we couldnt force Ole Miss to punt late in the game.

Chavis' defenses suck arse when it matters the most.

Agreed against top 15 teams. I would guarantee our 3rd down stop ratio is HORRIBLE

Auburn (the only top 15 team on the schedule) converted 35.29% of their 3rd downs. Georgia converted 36.36%. Ole Miss.... 66%

Except that last drive, we stopped Bama last year on 3rd downs in the 2nd half.

no matter where or against who....when the game is on the line, Chavis gets scared and starts playing to not lose instead of to win.

He has done it at LSU, Ole Miss, GA, Alabama (in the past)..etc..where we lose on the last couple of minutes of the game.
He did that at TN, got him fired...it is his tendency.

LSU Defensive 3rd Down Conversion % (National Rank)

2008 = 31.15% (12th)

2009 = 36.76% (38th)
2010 = 34.66% (16th)
2011 = 33.97% (19th)
2012 = 31.89% (12th)

2013 = 38.5% (56th)

Average not including 2013 under Chavis = 34.32 (21st)

Fact is that this is the worst year for this at LSU under chavis and nearly 10% worse than our "horrible" 2008 defense.

Chavis is just blowing it this year and there is no defense for it. Horrible 3rd down play calling.

Under Pelini, LSU had the following rankings:
2005 = 28.2% (2)
2006 = 31.9% (16)
2007 = 35.2% (29)

Simply put, Chavis has always had a major issue with 3rd downs. It didn't just pop out of thin air. In Miles' tenure, pre-Chavis averaged 31.6% (15th) vs under Chavis that is currently at 35.2% (28th).

Chavis's career at Tennessee came to an end in the middle of the 2008 season. Following a 3-6 start and a blowout loss to Steve Spurrier and South Carolina, Phillip Fulmer announced the following Monday that he, at the University's decision, would step down as head coach. Fulmer's resignation would ultimately oust Chavis as defensive coordinator. Chavis's final three games would bring confidence but major disappointment to his final days with UT, starting with an embarrassing 13-7 loss to Wyoming which would keep UT from making a bowl for the second time in four years. Chavis would win his final game at UT against the University of Kentucky, 28-10, continuing a 24 game win streak against the Wildcats.

you interpret it how you chose.

my interpretation comes from TN friends..
