I think there's a shite ton of coaches who'd love to have a disappointing staff that features 2 aces and a lights out closer.

Ill give you a hint...he was head coach AND worked with the pitchers and called all the pitches for his team...

I think I already agreed with those points, but you said I was wrong and to do more research. Was I incorrect in thinking that you meant Grewe had been a pitching somewhere else?

Calling pitches does not make you a pitching coach. Its not even close. How did his teams at MSU do? If he wasn't PM's buddy from South Bend would he have been hired as the pitching coach at LSU?

Sorry...he was an assistant coach..not head coach. It was at Central Michigan. He was asked to work with the pitchers and he also called all the pitches.

I also think catchers know what's going on with pitcher's mechanics almost as much as ex-pitchers. They are usually the smartest players on a team. The best pitching coach in the majors was an ex-catcher.

I dont think the guys we have in the bullpen would be doing that much better with a different coach...and our frontline guys are lights out..including our closer.

Ok. I just don't think much of him as a coach, but agree to disagree.

I also think that a catcher can be a good pitching coach, but I disagree that the majority of catchers know mechanics.

He has been with LaRussa for a long time, but I don't think he is the best pitching coach in MLB.

I think Leo Mazzone is also right up there...along with a few others. But i was just pointing out that catchers know alot about pitching...including mechanics.

I always thought Mel Stottlemyre was very good. Dick Pole (yes, that is his real name) was one of the better ones.

You are right, it is subjective. I'm sure all of these guys have helped some pitchers while others struggled with them.

The other thing I will agree with you 100% is...

You are right, there are a few catchers that become good pitching coaches. I think the majority of catchers are more concerned with their own hitting than learning pitching mechanics though.
