quote:Yes, we're not Ole Miss. The goal is to win the West and the SEC, not just look ok against the powers of the SEC.
So if LSU goes 10-2 with close losses to Bama and Florida, finishes 2nd in the west, and then wins a New Years day, Non-BCS bowl game, it's still not good enough? You would still want him fired?
14-0 would not cause me to want to fire him, obviously.

I feel we can win the National Championship this year

If you read the full article - on offense and defense - you'll see that most of what he lists as LSU's strengths are potential and weaknesses are generally lack of experience.
So I took the quote above not as a contradiction, but more that there is a lot of talent, but a lot of uncertainty as well.
This team could finish 9-3 and still be playing for the SECCG, or it could end up 11-1 and not make Atlanta.
But if everything works to LSU's favor, including other top teams being upset, no major injuries, fortunate bounces of the ball, the Tigers could go 11-1 and play for the BCSCG.
My prediction? 6-2 in SEC, winning the tie-breaker vs Bama and playing a rematch with UF in ATL. National Title? Anything can happen (see 2007).

WTF?
He's predicting we get blown out by Bama and Florida but win all the others, you can't infer that from the article? "Might" being the operative word here.

I think thats the part that upsets so many LSU fans. We have one of the best teams in the SEC talent wise, yet the results dont show it..
Total crap.
There were at least two teams in the SEC that definitely had more talent: UF and Bama. Didn't we finish 3rd in the SEC? Seems like we finished exactly where we were supposed to.

This is still LSU, and it's still a damn strong football program.

try explaining that to some of the chicken littles on here.
These are direct quotes from the writer:
quote:This is what the "chicken littles" are saying too.
Miles has to keep up the pace. The last thing LSU wants to be is the new Tennessee and assume things can’t go stale after years of success.
quote:
Miles, who has always hovered in a land somewhere between instinctive genius and questionably reckless with some of his coaching decisions in tight battles, will soon be under scrutiny for his ability to consistently get the most out of the talent he brings in

quote:
The lines were stunningly lousy last year headlined by a disaster of an offensive front. The offense finished last in the league

quote:This is what the "chicken littles" are saying too.
The team isn’t quite good enough to win the West, even with a favorable schedule, but getting back to double digit wins after not hitting the mark over the last two years is a must
Seems like the article and the "chicken littles" pretty much agree on a lot of things.

Except a lot of the "chicken littles" will still want Miles gone even if we go 10-2, 11-1, 12-0, or God forbid 14-0.
Just read the post higher up on the page. 10-2, 2nd in the West is not good enough for Miles to keep his job.

You just don't get how some of us can be honest and objective and still find room for criticism and optimism. I actually think the talent and coaching changes made in the off-season, combined with a no-doubt chat behind closed doors between Aleeva and Miles, means that LSU will win 10 or more games this year on the way to winning the NC in 2011. Yes, it is possible to give an honest review of horrible coaching decisions over the last 3 years, while also seeing enough improvements and changes to allow LSU to perform at a much higher level in the next 2 years. Of course, how the Qb situation unfolds is huge in this all.

Maybe what you describe here is not what's being referred to as being a "Chicken Little".
It's one thing to be critical of the O-line and the coaching there, and how to improve their performance and how that might lead to a passing game that could actually drop off opponents safties and open up LSU's running game a bit... but it's another thing to say something like, "We'll never win another SEC game as long as Miles is coach!!!!!!!!!"

I think this quote is more telling about how the program has slipped with Miles:

The team isn't quite good enough to win the West, even with a favorable schedule
Yep. After two years of rebuilding and preparation, returning our starting QB plus a very experienced backup, loaded with talent at the skill positions, in the second year of a defensive scheme that supposedly will be much better because of that, and with our toughest division opponent playing at our place, the most positive article about us of the whole offseason says we aren't good enough to win the West.
But there's been no discernible decline in the program. No sirree. Nothing to see here.

That would be a nice season in a lot of situations. As a rebuilding year after having a great one, it would be terrific. As the big payoff year after taking our lumps for two shitty seasons, it would be disappointing.

quote:The fact that you honestly beleive this prevents you from having a rational discussion on this matter. Winning cures everything. If we win as much as you say in your quotes above, no one, save for a few imbeciles, will be yelling for Miles to go. We are trying to use pressure to make him get his shite together... if he does, of course then no one is going to mind if he stays.
Except a lot of the "chicken littles" will still want Miles gone even if we go 10-2, 11-1, 12-0, or God forbid 14-0.

No, sadly we could not. That's the problem.
quote:
some of you would still find a reason to complain and want Miles gone.
If he had gone 14-0 last year and won everything, we would not even be having these conversations.
That's the problem with you sunshine pumpers. If we go 0 and fricking 12, some of you will say "well, you can't win the national championship every year", as if there is no middle ground between undefeated and winless.

I was mainly referring to the ones that absolutely refuse to say anything positive about the football program because of their disdain for the head coach.

Did it occur to you that while LSU may not be good enough to win the West, there still may be no discernable decline in the program?
Maybe it's that there's ANOTHER program that has finished with devastating sanctions, that occurred while LSU was winning the West, and is now back to full strength and has surpassed anything that LSU has done in the last 10 years.
In order to win the West, LSU almost HAS to beat Alabama. Alabama didn't lose a game last year. When was the last time LSU went undefeated? LSU could have a 2003-like season this year, but if Bama has a 2009-like season, they will win the West.
Yes, Alabama's football team last year surpassed anything LSU has fielded dutring the 2000's - and that includes while Saban was coach at LSU.

What conference do you think we play in? 10-2 season would be a disappointment? You must've been miserable from '05 to '07.
