I still can't for the life of me understand the misuse that is RS. No use of him at QB in a system that would allow him to flourish, No wild tiger use, Limited touches in a rb role. And limited wr action. Personally I would have never moved him out of a QB role. With the offense Crowton likes to run he fits the mold perfectly. Yet he was never given a chance, Instead we use JJ to run reads and options who is a pro style guy instead of a duel guy. And instead of using a more pure passer and better passer in Lee we use JJ who's mechanics and decision making are poor.

Why, exactly, do we need the option?

maybe because the LSU QBs have not shown a deep threat consistantly enough to draw the defenses out of man coverage, so they need to spread the defense out along the LOS in order to run the ball.

This.

And also because of the offense that Crowton runs.

Yeah sorry bro, but Jefferson isn't that good of a runner, not shifty like a Michael Vick and not a bruiser like Teblow. Never makes anyone miss, always gets brought down on first contact.

Again, depends on the comparison.

Dude. . . seriously?

How many QB's will ever compare to those guys?

Regardless, that is besides the point. He is not a great runner, but he is the best running QB we have on the roster. . .not counting Shep, who appears to be unlikely to ever take snaps.

And anyone who says JJ is not good at the read option says so in spite of the evidence. . .probably as a result of disgust behind his inability to throw the ball well.

He has been money at the read option.

I said this before the season. Crowton tries to fit personnel to scheme, not vice-versa.

JJ still isn't a great scrambler, but he runs the read option fairly well and the option a lot better. Like Roaad said, it seems to be the only thing he worked on in the offseason.
