The problem is mainieri is lazy. The right thing to do is to fire Nolan Cain, have Mainieri actually recruit and hire a legit paid hitting coach.

Your title
“Can we really blame Mainieri for hitting?”
He is the coach buddy. Who else would there to blame.
This years team is not going to be that good. What do we have maybe 1-2 juniors. It’s to young. And with the lack of Mainieri’s ability to know how to coach. This team goes no where.
Maine is not a good coach. He doesn’t know fundamental baseball which is going to kill him in the end

Lack of basic baseball. Hughes swinging at a pitch over his head on a 2-0 count with the bases loaded.Make the pitcher throw a strike before swinging at anything.
