Kurt Hester started a legacy in Baton Rouge when he became the strength coach in the early 90's. LSU stopped doing all the long distance marathon running that every other team in the country was doing and started training like beasts under Hester.
Hester wanted to make the LSU Tigers the biggest and strongest team in the country... and it worked.
LSU players looked like NFL stars: big, strong and powerful. Hester did what nobody else was doing and now we have come back to doing what everyone else is doing once again. If you want another dynasty like the 90's and early 2000's, we need to do what others are not doing once again. Today's mentality is that baseball players need to train differently than all other athletes. This is wrong thinking.
Bryce Harper, Aroldis Chapman, Mike Trout, Nolan Arenado, the list goes on- these guys train like animals. Bryce Harper can power clean 375 pounds. Some of the kids we see nowadays(not just LSU) look like they just rolled out of the nearest Donut Shop before they came to the field.

We need Hester mentality back.

You can make that argument.. but the fact is those boys stopped doing "baseball training" and started lifting heavy and building the strongest bodies in college baseball.

1. Steroids
2. Explosive bats

Could you imagine what a juiced up Deichman would have done to a baseball with those bats? He may have literally killed somebody.

1) every other team had access, if not more access to the steroids
2) Every other team used the juiced bat

This. Eddie Fernis was on the committee that banned those bats. I watched him jack one to Nicholson with one of those things. It was incredible.

as much as I miss gorilla ball, we had to change the mode of operation. the NCAA put in dead bats and balls so you couldn't hit home runs no matter how strong the player. the only way to win was to build a team that could win at small ball. the balls have swung back the other way a bit now, and you see a few home runs hit, but we saw last night what happens when you can't field or run the bases cleanly.

It's not hard work it's smart work. You can work hard at running 10 miles at a good pace.. wont make you hit hard/throw hard. Everyone had access to steroids, although I do not think LSU was using them.

And every other team was jacking the fricking shite out of the ball in case you didn't notice, we just jacked it the most often. I personally think that sports would be 100x more exciting if everyone was able to openly juice and use whatever equipment they want, but sadly that's never happening and that's the only way you'd ever see anything like gorilla ball again so keep dreaming brother

Everyone assumes it's all about homeruns. The harder you hit the ball the better chance you have of getting a hit- Fact. The harder you throw the ball, the better chance of success- Fact. The stronger you are, the longer you can wait on a pitch before you pull the trigger which helps you find more consistent contact. Barry Bonds himself has said these things. You don't need steroids to get bigger, faster, stronger but they do help

Yeah, sure we can bring it back to an extent. It will take paul manieri recruiting some players that are a little bigger and more stout tha the ones he had been signing. Honestly, I don't think he's going to do it, bc he likes the small ball too much (only when we don't really need to do it, last night with runners on corners 0 outs and he doesn't bunt ) to recruit bigger players.
