Thats the problem. Brady made the D react to him.
Yes sir, this is the root of the issue.

Sorta... as much as an offense can do that to a D, yes he did. The offense attacks the defenses weakness which is every so slightly different than dictating.

He can't when he is reacting to the D
Reading the D after the ball is placed (from sideline) is 100% on your heels reacting.

What Brady would do was basically act as a setup man for CSE. He would filter the list of play calls (or formations) down and have a selection for CSE to quicken the pace. His short list was based on tendencies/weaknesses, personnel grouping, and what he saw on the PREVIOUS play (assuming D didn't change packages).

That way as soon as the previous play STARTED, barring a change of defensive personnel, the next play selection had already started. And it wasn't really a play call, it was more "package" from which run, pass, or routes could then be selected based on leverage and how exactly the defense presented itself.

That's where the "check with me" comes in. Based on tendencies and personnel you know what family/package you're going to use before the previous play even finishes. Down & distance plus what has been working will decide run family or pass family. That's being singaled in as they approach the line or huddle. This is where the "setup man" can dictate to the D- if past successes have forced the D to alter how they are lining up you now select from a family that will exploit that.

Now you're on the line- now you check with the sideline. The check with me is primarily for the WRs to alter their routes based on exactly where the D is lining up and with what leverage. Of course the QB has to have the same info. And the OL simultaneously is getting calls based on family (run/pass) and which protection scheme to run (5-slide, 7-slide, pick-a-hat, etc.). Now there's 15 sec on the play clock.

Now the QB can survey and tweak his RB and/or WRs and the C can identify likely blitzs/stunts and adjust accordingly.

3 things:
- Peetz is obviously starting his process after the previous play has finished. It won't work. The play "family" has to be based on mainly tendencies and the D personnel on the field and start that narrowing down process.

- QBs need to be surveying what they see as they get rid of the ball. The QB has to be working on that next play before that one is finished. Not celebrating, not taking a breather- as the WR is going down your job as a QB is to be getting that formation and family from the sideline and they should have it ready.

- OL adjustments: I THINK I see them trying to account for D personnel they don't need to. If they aren't danger close don't adjust protection. If somebody too far away to be an immediate threat blitzs that's the QB (or RB) job. If you try to account for those people you will tend to let more immediate threats surprise you. It's called a disguise for a reason.

Peetz has never called plays before.

sheee-itt, when we went to the no huddle when Les was here it was comical, no huddle to keep the d off balance, right? the baws would get up to the line and wait till the play clock was almost expired to get the play call, was a joke
