I mean the money sponsors are paying like Cane's. Not the revenue sharing or school NIL.

This would create a total shite storm of negative publicity that would be an incredible impediment to recruiting. It could also raise issues and result in litigation if a player alleges a coach was ordered to reduce his playing time to save money.

Yeah, the "on paper" is a big one. Guys can scream it's not pay for play until they're blue in the face, but suppose a 5-star steps on campus and either doesn't pan out, doesn't play, etc. He's certainly not going to see as much money that next year as he otherwise would have if he were to perform well.

So, while it's not exactly pay to play. Play certainly dictates pay, though it may be delayed.

OP is gonna get dragged, but the question really isn't that bad.

There are performance clauses in the most expensive and riskier contracts.

LSU for example protected itself with Leavitt in case he doesn’t make a full recovery this season.

Not likely but my unpopular opinion is NIL, while not named for what it is and that's pay for play, should all be incentivized.

You can get ALL of NIL money you have given back to that particular player, yes.

NIL is pay for their name, image, and likeness…NOT performance.

And we all know that's bullshite! If that were the case why doesn't a 3rd string OG rake in the dough like a starting wide receiver would? It is, definitely tied into their performance, or should I say, expectations of their performance.
I'm sure Todd Graves would not be showcasing Big Poppa if he were a junior and returning next year, because he proved to be a bust, but he's not, so I can't prove my theory.
