Was wondering if the college juniors like PP can come back for a senior season in college, if the NFL stays out on strike, even 6 0r 8 early games in the fall? I know the draft is in April before we really know. Anyone?

If they hire an agent, they lose their amateur status and can no longer play college sports. They are now officially professional athletes.

You saying I'm wrong does do too fricking much if you can't bring in evidence.

you can play professionally in one sport and play collegiately in another.

If he's wrong, what about Cam Newton? He has an Under Armour sponsorship. Hypothetically, would he have to give that up? A lot of top picks get paid for some kind of ads or signature deal right out of college.

THis article will help answer the question. It may be a bit diffeent being we are talking about someone who has already entered college.

quote:

Below are some general guidelines to help you understand the activities you should consider when evaluating your amateur status.

Avoid agents The one consensus violation of amateurism rules across all the collegiate athletic associations is entering into a contract with an agent or receiving benefits from an agent (whether or not you have a contract with them).

Professional competition

If you wish to play for a sports college in the NJCAA, NAIA, or Division I of the NCAA, you may not compete as a professional or enter into a contract with a professional team. However, each association has its own specific regulations regarding your competition as an amateur either against professionals or with professional teammates. Check with each association to see what is permissible. Note that in most cases, these situations are also violations of amateurism rules.

Does not apply to PP7. It's football all the way.

The question was directed towards PP7. Most people already know you can play professionally in one sport and play college in another.

you quoted something from someone else and responded to my post

but he said that more as a blanket statement. or it came across that way by saying college sports instead of football specifically

Thanks for the info on signing with an agent. I am assuming PP signed with an agent, but, if a player does not sign ,goes into Aprils draft and the NFL goes out on strike and we know it, then could they return for a Senior year in football. PP or anyone else? some lineman?

I don't think you can go into the draft without an agent...not sure though.

sure you can. you don't HAVE to hire an agent. teams might be less willing to work with you however. there is a deadline on when you have to declare by and if that time has passed and you declared, you cannot go back to school. i don't know if this would apply if the NFL stays locked out.

With this lock it seems that anything can happen.
