Calling a run on first down, you’re already screwed

I bet LSU has called more runs on first down than anyone in college football. The rush-rush-pass sequence, which LSU’s offensive play-calling seems to be stuck in, has the least amount of success in the NFL. This is why we’ve scored 10 points against Alabama last 12 quarters.

Worry about your grammar.. not LSU’s offensive play calling
And btw, this is ground breaking news

All depends on the situation and the QB ‘s ability to recognize it.

Email that link to Coach E.
Since we’ve scored 0 pernts vs Bama in the 8 quarters he’s called plays, I’m sure he’d appreciate all the help he could get.

Lsu has not lost to Bama because of play calling

Of course it does. An elite passing game can have some success on 3rd down. When has LSU had an elite passing game in the last ten years? Maybe once.

Nonsense. Now, I'll agree you can't run on every first down. Perhaps we shouldn't run so much on first down, but to suggest that calling a run on first down (if you're a team built to run across from a favorable defensive alignment) is always bad is football ignorance.

Too bad we called a pass play on all but two first half first down plays vs Bama....but u know...facts and stuff

Being one dimensional is not the answer. In order to have a balanced attack the Oline must be much better, this is where the problem lies.

Get some stats to back yourself up.

Throw on 1st and 10 and run on 3rd and 6. Been saying this all year with a questionable online you can’t be predictable and also take advantages of personel

So, what this guy is saying is if teams mix up their play calling then they're more likely to be successful?
That's just crazy talk. Pound the rock, damnit! They won't be able to stop us every time. Hit the line again - only this time, HARDER!!!

There’s a lil more to it than that. The Defense also has the ability to make adjustments. If the Oline is unable to execute then play calling becomes very limited allowing the defense to react accordingly

Does Saban know this
Bama ranked 93rd in adjusted run rate, so I’m guessing he might
I will say that the article the OP linked isn’t as applicable to CFB as it is to NFL. Talent levels for opposing teams vary way more in CFB, so you could argue that in some situations optimizing efficiency is less important than decreasing risk

So pass-pass-pass then punt with 18 seconds off the clock is a better option than ball control and a fresh defense?

The thing is, a lot of you think that if we just change the play calling from running the ball to throwing the ball, that we will be more successful. That isn’t how it works. We’ve gotta have an offensive line to be able to do anything and to beat the big boys like Bama. Gotta win and control the LOS to be successful anywhere
