I don’t know why Kelly needs to apologize for anything. Coaches leave. Players leave. Heck fans leave. It’s a part of life and nobody sets a standard on how someone leaves.

I think a lot of y’all are missing the point of the OP
It’s not that Cincy reacted poorly. That’s to be expected. It’s that Brian Kelly did everything that everyone is complaining that he didn’t do properly this time around, and he STILL got a ton of shite for it.
People can get mad all they want, but this is just the reality of how these things go. There’s no “right way” to take a better opportunity. It’s all just anger from losing out on a coach you didn’t want to lose.
