Seems like Jay has written him off. I feel like he has played well for the most part in the opportunities that he's had. Wish he was given more of a chance to prove himself since he was such a coveted transfer portal guy. The upside is there.

13 strike outs in 24 ABs will get anyone benched
He’s somehow 7/11 when he makes contact

Personally feel like he has never been given a chance to work through much, the strikeouts are concerning obviously but the dude is in/out in/out the lineup constantly. Seen him start and pulled in a number of games or just come off the bench a few times. He's only had 2 games all season where he registered 3 or more AB (a few other games with 4+ plate appearances because he took some walks)
Would be nice to see him maybe get a weekend. When he makes contact good things happen, he had a rough go the last bit going 1 for his last 9 with 6 K's
This guy raked last year, and before anyone says "high point!" - its not like this non conference was anything different that he saw there

Go look at his stats. He has 13k in like 30 at bats. Can’t have that

What has he done well?
He has zero errors, which is better than Dardar & Ruckert. Simpson's problem is his K's. However, his on-base is .433, which is the 3rd best of anyone with 30 plate appearances. Simpson bats RH, which Jay sometimes seems to treat as a handicap.
I don't know if Simpson has been allowed to play an entire game. He's started 11 games, played in 3 more, and yet only has 30 plate appearances. Ironically, Simpson (.278) is still hitting RHP better than Dardar (.200).

To have the type of team we expect at LSU we need guys who can contribute in whatever role Jay puts them in. We need guys good enough to figure it out even if they aren’t given a month long leash. Jay has shown he’s more than willing to play the hottest hand when a spot isn’t locked up so it’s Simpsons job to take it over.
My coach used to say, “play so well that you don’t give any other option than to give you pt”. Lots of guys need to adopt that mindset on this team

I get the strikeouts. But to me, his leash has been much shorter than any of the other guys. I guess the point I was trying to make was consistent opportunities. I can recall a couple of times where he started a game, batted once, and was replaced.

His at bats were just not effective. He could tighten up. But overall not much contact with the ball.
