Vander Esch doesn't have wheels.

I despise the Cowboys, but He may be the most athletic and fastest LBs in the NFL at his size!!! Guys who are 6'4" and 250-260 and can run a 4.65 in the 40yd and 4.15 in the 20yd shuttle are extremely rare. Check the combine numbers for guys that long and heavy. He's one of the best all-around LBs and sideline to sideline tackling LBs in the NFL as a rookie since taking over for Lee.

According to his NFL combine scouting report:

His strengths are speed and athleticism with fluid hips, he can cover and tackle in space.

His weakness is his inability to get through blocks at times and his speed/athleticism cause him to occasionally overrun plays.

His "wheels" are just fine.

Vander Esch

Anyway, back to Devin White and Greedy. I hope they both go to historically successful franchises who are having a down year due to circumstances beyond the control of the coaches or personnel. I think San Fran would be a perfect fit for Devin White based on the fact that they finally cut ties with the head case Reuben Foster. They need a LB that has a good character and can play, and they may be able to trade down a few spots from 3 to get him because 3 might be a little to early. I would definitely NOT pass on Devin White. He's only been truly learning the position for 3 years, and his ceiling based on athleticism is sky high.

Good point... I will stand down on the Vander Esch wheels comment. I have watched the Cowboys a few times and don't see him hitting outside the tackle runs like a Deon Jones does. Maybe I have missed him failing to shed tackles effectively.

Deon Jones speed at the LB position is VERY rare. He's got DB speed so that's almost an unfair comparison for the other NFL LBs

I understand where your thinking is coming from about Vander Esch. He's a big guy from a mid-major school who most of us were unfamiliar with and most of us assumed he would be like a 1st and 2nd down run stopper based on the frame. I assumed he would be on the sideline for 3rd + situations. After watching him this year and researching him, I see why the Cowboys surprised a lot of casual draft fans selecting him in the first. He's adapting to the speed and complexity of the NFL quickly because he has great instincts and athleticism. His ability to handle Kamara in the open field was more than impressive.

Maybe the threat of going to the Bengals will convince Devin to stay??

I listen to DFW sports talk all day long. We talked about LVE a few months before the draft and it was pretty much either him or Ridley for the last month until the draft.

I never wanted LVE. I thought he was overrated by Dallas’ front office and wanted Derwin James instead.

I couldn’t have been more wrong. He is incredible and getting better every week. He’s already a top 5 LB according to PFF and he may the best open field tackler i’ve seen in my life.

A lot of the credit for this is coming from his background pre-Boise State. He played 8-man football and so there is a lot more ground to cover as a defender.

Craziest stat about him, he has only played like 17 games of 11-man football in his career lmaooo.

Devin will go to the Cowboys somewhere around 10. I expect they will move up to get him.

They don't have a 1st round pick this year when they gave it all up for Amari Cooper. They'd have to give up a ton more to get back into the top 15. Not happening.
