From what I've gathered he is one of the more animated coaches out there and many people around the program believe he will be a future head coach. I was told a story that he really wanted to come to LSU prior but Coach Meyer talked him out of it (he felt obligated to his former coach).

you're overthinking it IMO.

Look at it from a PR standpoint and not a football.

Crowton was kept to so that in case the offense stalls we have someone to throw under the bus.

When Crowton gets hung out to dry, we have this young up and coming offensive guy who had learned from Urban Meyer, and had a hand in designing the Florida offense.

Is any of that true? Who cares cause that is how it will be spun.

Biggest question here. Who will call the plays/???

I personally think BG or Les himself should call them. Crowton needs to be margianilized

what is the future/impact of billy gonzalez here at LSU?

He will coach WRs, recruit Florida, help break-down Florida's offense for our defense and help teach GC some new school spread option.

if gonzo is the heir apparent at OC for LSU,

Why does anyone think this? Again, if the offense sucks this year we have to get rid of Crowton and won't promote his underling but will bring in a big name OC to appease the masses. Everyone knows the back up QB is the most popular player on the team until after he starts a game. BG = Back-up QB and that's why the rantards adore him.

do we see a radical shift to the UF-style offense?

or, are we going to ask gonzo to "learn" the true spread under crowton, and then be the anti-crowton (go from spread option to trying to incorporate the spread, where crowton is a spread guy trying to learn the spread option)?

I think we will have to wait and see on this one. You would think that Crowton will do whatever to make the offense work and save his job.

is it possible that if crowton goes/is fired, gonzo isn't retained?

I don't know if they'd clean house or not. He's just a passing game coordinator which is what Todd Monken was in 2006. I seriously doubt they promote him to OC if Crowton is fired though and that's why I don't get the idea of him being an OC in waiting.
Seems to be he's more of an X's and O's guy. I'm kind of worried about Gonzo's "coaching" personally. Florida receiver's weren't the greatest in the world even though they had great talent (highly recruited). That being said, I will reserve judgement because he may be a great WR coach, I just don't know.

too big of a PR hit in florida (i think other than being a running-game coach, gonzo was hired to recruit florida...a big "duh")

This year will be a Louisiana heavy recruiting class and I think Frank Wilson is our go-to-guy this year. Not sure how many Florida kids we take this year though. I doubt they fire him, unless the offense is just that bad, but I don't think they promote him.
