I think this can only be solved by the tale of the tape....

('advantage' means who wasted a better opportunity or did something dumber)

Best game:
Diesel - 232 yards in a loss to Auburn. Credit the 3rd and 2 call for the loss.
RP - Solid performance with sliced finger in SEC Title game victory. Credit the defense with the win.
Advantage: Push

Number of 2nd chances given at LSU
Diesel - 0 (as far as I know)
RP - 4 or 5, depending on what you count
Advantage: RP

Offense that ended his LSU career (as far as we know)
Diesel - breaking, entering and fondling
RP - crack
Advantage: RP, given his situation

What the team did following his suspension
Diesel - 4-7
RP - probably better than 4-7
Advantage: Cecil

Who he would have beat out to win the starting job
Diesel - Kevin Faulk
RP - Lee and Hatch
Advantage: RP. he had the job in the bag.

What he would have played for
Diesel - Heisman
RP - Repeat national championship
Advantage: Diesel (this is about personal waste)

The backfield he would have been a part of
Diesel - Kevin Faulk, Herb Tyler
RP - Charles Scott, KW, Trindon, Murphy
Advantage: Diesel. I love CSKWTHRM, but a Faulk/Tyler/Diesel backfield would have been just stupid

Innovative offensive mind he would have been coached by
Diesel - Morris Watts (was he still the guy in 98?)
RP - Crowton
Advantage: Diesel. Why? because even I could have been the OC for Cecil and he would have rushed for 200/game.

Last one
Likely draft status
Diesel - first round, no doubt
RP - tough to tell, but I say Cecil would have been a higher pick
Advantage: Cecil

So that is pretty much it. despite the fact that RP wasted the starting job on the defending national champs, i think Cecil wasted more personal opportunity and thus is the bigger waste of talent.

Cecil. I remember him scampering down the field on a few occasions with ONE SHOE, and tackled at the 1. They'd put in another back to get the TD.

Collins is by far the bigger waste. RP is not in prison and still can make something of himself.

RP contributed to a NC season,Cecil had a pretty good few games for us BUT went on to the NFL and at least made it to the league. But only time will tell with RP.

rp is just a waste, gave it all away to smoke some pot and sleep in a little.

Half the team probably smokes pot. RP was kicked off the team for cocaine use.

RP still has a shot if he stays out of trouble.

not for RP, LSU would not made it into the NC game with MF injured for the SECCG..
