from what I've seen the drill lasts less than 5 seconds and only a few players do it. each player might have to do it once a week? maybe?

I don't really see how a 5 second drill done once a week can wear the team out.

I meant it as wear and tear on their bodies if they are doing it every single day at practice throughout the year. I don't see how that's so laughable...

You need to have contact before the season to get people ready for the hits. As the season goes on cutting it back is going to help. You want fresh players who are ready. Practice plays, technique, and rest those legs.

again, like I said earlier on, , I wasn't aware of how often they do it. If they do it every day at practice or not, I didn't have a clue. Figured they do and I think that would be a bit of overload... if not so be it.

all the injuries that beset us last year were on field injuries
Brandon Taylor
Sam Montgomery
Will Blackwell

Were all on field injuries.

Also it does help the Offensive player with blocking, and hand position.

this is what I was getting at. people took it as criticism of something without trying to get to the point. If its something that each player only participates in once a week or so then I guess it isn't so bad.

Also lol if you think that drill poses a serious risk and gets players hurt

Did you intend to direct this at me? I have no issue, and like the Big Cat, Oklahoma, or any other contact drills.

sweet post. I was ignorant about a topic. I admitted it in my first or second post. People think its more beneficial than not... Unlike most on this board I can accept being wrong. I definitely don't have any ego problems and the like

you came into this thread trying to bash the big cat drill and saying that NFL teams don't do it. You've yet to come up with a valid argument as to why it's bad for the players to be doing this drill.

dude. Just stop.

Speaking critically about a topic you admittedly are ignorant on is bad enough. Continuing to do so is just plain embarrasing.

I just meant general wear on the body over the course of the season. Apparently they only do it sparingly per player...

I already admitted I was wrong. I was qualifying what I previously believed as to how the drill was conducted. Dude.

Just so that you know, once the season starts, the team may have contact drills as little as 2 days (Tuesday and Wednesday) each week. Mostly, they go "thud" which is initial contact, and then no follow through to the end of the tackle.

that's what I had figured/heard most teams do. I had also just read here (I know I know, almost as bad as BR) that Miles has pretty physical practices throughout the season. Guess I was seeking the truth. My bad peeps.

gotcha.

miles just does it at the start of practice with maybe 10 or so selected matchups. after each matchup is done they break out into position drills. it looks like he rotates through basically the entire team so 20 players per practice with 100 players means each player does the drill once every 5 practices.

Because I was under the (false) impression that it was conducted far more often than it apparently is.

Which means you get one chance that week to prove yourself.

I get it now I was reading earlier where people were so amazed Blackwell apparently son'ed Freak in it. I'd figure the guy 5 years older would dominate in that scenario
