Should there be a defensive Heisman trophy as well? If there were such an award, would it ever find it’s way to becoming the most prestigious defensive award in CFB; may 20 or 30 yrs down the road?

No.

I hate the strategy of creating more trophies so everyone gets one.

There’s one Heisman. You hve to be exceptionally great to win it. If Chase Young isn’t suspended- finishes with 20 sacks and Joe Burrow doesn’t have the greatest year ever then Young would have won it this year.

It can be done.

Was looking up past Bednarik winners to see where LSU stood and I did not remember the Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu won it back to back years. Impressive

Like I said, it always goes to an offensive player. Why don't you do the math and tell me how many defensive players have won the award for their defensive play. A few 2 way players have won it but it wasn't their defensive play that won them the award. Personally, I think if the Heisman Committee decided to issue a "Defensive Heisman" it would soon become the most prestigious defensive award in college football. It would most certainly ride the coat tails of the offensive award for a period of time and would, at some point, stand on its own. I have no problem with it as I have no personal relationship with any of the annual awards. it's just another award in my mind. I think defensive players are just as skilled as any offensive player, except QB, and should get more consideration for winning the Heisman. Most years, it's hard to argue that the QB, RB or WR is not the most valuable person on the field.
