We have other outfielders. Give someone a chance that doesn't strike out 2/3 of the time when facing lefties. Helenihi? Landry?

Tony, I admit that if we win tomorrow and they both lose then we win. You got me.

Mitchell also is a liability in the outfield. Outfielders are supposed to frickin hit the ball. He gave up a run by committing the ultimate double pump sin tonight. Snoozing while the guy tagged up. That is bad baseball

He did the same thing on Tuesday, but with a quintuple-pump that day.

But other than those two plays, he's an excellent outfielder. You're magnifying his few negatives.

The positives about him GREATLY outweigh the negatives.

I agree that he should be playing often if only because of his speed. The thing is that when right handed pitchers are in he tears the cover off the damn ball. I just do not understand how he can hit probably .400 plus against righties but be so damn awful against lefties. I just think that Maneiri needs to be careful about who he starts Mitchell against.

If the other team has a leftie on the mound you can count on Mitchell to take first pitch fastball strikes, strike out at least once looking, and generally sucking and costing the team an easy out. So people need to understand that baseball is a situational game and a team such as LSU can SUBSTITUTE someone for Mitchell when a really good leftie is pitching.

people are starting to contradict themselves now. you want Nola to stay in because his great defense makes up for his poor hitting (which is against both lefties and righties), but then you want Mitchell benched because his hitting only against lefties is bad but his fielding is good. y'all need to make up your minds.

If you understand that the shortstop is the most important infielder you will understand that a great fielding shortstop who allows the DP routinely makes a lot more sense than a great fielding centerfielder. Outfielders are way less involved and may touch the ball a few times a game.

yeah, you're right...those deep balls in the gap and the ones down the line that go for triples with normal outfielders are waaay less important. i mean, the UCI series is a perfect example of how important the outfielders are...Leon's robbed homer and diving catch, Jared's diving catch in the 9th after we took the lead. outfield play is crucial in post-season play.

When? What balls? A lot of times Mitchell gets a crappy jump on the ball. Go to a game and see for yourself. He could be better.
