He aint a diamond in the rough, he was a top 50 prospect going into the 2021 mlb draft by multiple services
Before he had TJ surgery. He might be a diamond in the rough now because nobody knows how good he'll be after surgery. Not everybody comes out of that as good as before.

It's not 1980 anymore. A lot come out of the surgery better than before.

If last year taught anyone anything is that you can never have enough pitching, let’s ride

He can throw four pitches for strikes, with a fastball that typically sits around 92 mph, but can touch 94-95, a heater described as “dark” by some scouts because hitters just don’t pick it up. Jump has a pair of distinct breaking pitches, with most preferring his curve to his slider, helped by his higher arm slot. He also displays good feel for his changeup.
Entering the draft 2021 draft, Gage Jump ranked 43 among all draft eligible prospects by MLB Pipeline.
For reference:
44: James Wood (now a consensus top 10 prospect)
45: Tommy Mace (former Florida ace)
46: Ben Kudrna (LSU signee that went in 2nd round in 2021)
47: Chase Burns (Tennessee)
48: Josh Hartle (Wake lefty LSU faced in CWS, went 6 ip, 2 ER that outing)
