he has arguably the greatest year ever as a college QB,
Quit saying "arguably". It was the greatest season ever.
Full stop.
Once level of competition and schedule is taken into account, no one else comes close.

The problem with LSU recruiting QB’s under Les Miles was their inability ever have more than 1 decent QB on the team. Miles could get one decent 4 star guy but then that guy would never have a highly ranked QB behind him. LSU’s backup QB’s always seemed to lack experience when they would be asked to take over the starting role. It seemed like LSU was rarely in a situation like they are in 2020 where they have a highly rated QB like Brennan stepping into a starting role after paying his dues and having been in the system and coached at the college level more than 1 year. LSU under Miles was never in the situation they are in now with 2 highly rated QB’s waiting their turn behind the starter. Ever since the Ryan Perrilloux debacle LSU has struggled to create quality depth at QB.
BTW, I saw Ryan Perilloux this week. He’s a skeleton of his former self compared to what he used to look like. He looks unhealthy skinny; maybe 170 lbs. He doesn’t resemble the athlete he used to be at all.

The coaching was worse. The fact that after 2007 the only one to look serviceable was Mettenberger is telling
Etling was better than just serviceable. Minor point, but true.
The coaching was NOT worse than the QB recruiting.

Nobody else could do ANYTHING with the several who left.

Lee got freaked based on a slow start against AL. Never even had a chance in the championship game. An idiot would have considered putting Lee in the game after the 3rd series in a DEEP shotgun formation and airing it out.
