Most coaches say "it is our job to put our players in a position to win".
Our coach says "we want our players to .............."

Obviously, we have our work cut out for us Saturday night, and LSU's really, really playing well," Auburn coach Gene Chizik said. "Just exactly what you would think in an LSU team: very big, very physical, great speed, phenomenal on defense. Special teams are really, really tops in the league in about everything, so it's just going to be obviously a great matchup, and we're going to have to play really well to beat them in Baton Rouge."
He must be watching film from 2007!

I have a feeling there are many OCs in the NCAA that could take LSU's offensive talent and rank better than 112th in the nation.
Being ranked 112th nationally is an embarrassment, considering our talent. Reading that article does not give me a good feeling for Saturday. It seems as if Miles just doesn't get it. I hope I'm wrong.

All these wants and needs makes me sick. Just "do" get the job done. And if he wants better execution, maybe he should use his players to their strengths. why not run RS and Trindon, and Keiland on option and the wild tiger, and have JJ throw deep so we can open some running lanes so the draw looks like it could become a threat for defenses. i mean if JJ does get a few more ints or incomplete passes, at least it would seem as if we would try long passes. At this point JJ should'nt be thinking of stats, Scott doesn't so we can punch em' in da mouth and win convincingly against a quality opponent.

Les is just gonna go up the middle. No need to utilize our immense speed and play-making ability more than 5 plays a game.

Miles said that all the defense was lacking last year was execution. What I would say is that what the team is lacking is good coaching. Execution is the bi product of good coaching and play calling.
What I "want" is Miles to accept responsibility for once. If he doesn't turn things around the second half of the season, he will "want" to update his resume.

+1. Sad but true.
On the other hand, who are out there that you want to replace Les Miles???

When the defense (and many fans) seem to know where plays are going, when the quarterback is rushing to get the play off as the play clock runs out again, and when plays seem to lack any attempt to confuse the defense, perfect execution is required. Unfortunately, it seems that Coach Miles thinks that running the same plays executed better will work. This may work against teams with less talent, but against teams of equal talent, there has to be some attempt to keep the defense off balance and guessing.
In particular, Coack Miles really seems to want to play smash-mouth football and dominate the other team's defense at the line of scrimmage while running between the tackles. We don't seem to have the talent in the line to do this, but worse, the other team's players and coaches seem to know this (alnog with everyone else in the stadium).
I hope I'm wrong. I really like Coach Miles, but I don't think he sees that play calling has a major effect on execution. And I'm concerned this doesn't bode well for the future.

That damn check system gets on my nerves...

There is a reason it's called "Check with me" and not "Check with everybody." A quarterback and his offensive teammates go to the line of scrimmage and look to the sideline for signals, real ones and decoys, for an updated play call based on the defense's alignment.
They are checking with a representative of the coaching staff, not with everyone in attendance
Duh.....no shite. This tidbit makes me feel so much better about our offense. I really thought they were looking to the fans in the stadium to make the call. I'll sleep much better now knowing that there is a method to the madness.

This sounds like a quote you'd hear after game two, maybe three, but half-way thru the season? Not buyin' it. This exemplifies his coaching style (not sure "style" applies here). Miles knows the X's and O's, but applying that in a game situation both eludes and baffles him. He doesn't understand the criticism because he doesn't think there's any other way to do this job.

I never thought of it that way, but you're right. He really doesn't understand the criticism. That a little scary.

Maybe Miles means this kind of execution.
