GG basically cherry picked stats to construct a narrative.
So a few notes to his article and comments:
1) If by highest paid he is expected to have the #1 D, then Dave has underachieved. But this suspends a single stat in a vacuum and ignores the bigger scheme of integrating a D with a terrible O to try and win games.
2) Dave knows he can get better.
3) He didn't coach Debo in '15. Steele did.
4) We basically lost our edge rusher in '17 (Key who was a shell of his former self) and Chaisson last year. Combine that with avg DL play/depth and it forces the DC to get creative. Our LB and DB talent have been great. Our DL play avg at best.
5) In '14, our D finished 1st in the SEC. Give Chavis credit. But this ignores how we got lit up early by State/Dak and Auburn. So we were 2 games down to our division opponents which meant we had no real chance of winning the conference. Finishing 1st on D was kind of a moot point.
