Anyone have the scoop on Sam Montgomery? I know what coach said, but he did absolutely nothing on the field Sat night. I think he will be fine and a dominant force, I was just curios and not satisfied with the answer given...

I may get blasted for this, but I honestly don't know what scouts are looking at when they evaluate Montgomery. He seems to get off line a tad slower than everyone else and gets pushed around quite a bit.

I get Mingo. I can see the speed it on the field. I really like Sam but I just don't see what all the hype is about. There is plenty of draft tape on him available on Youtube. I'm certainly no talent evaluator, I just would like to know what they are seeing.

Not worried about it... they basically ran 1-2 man routes and played max protect when they passed, so they had 8-9 guys blocking 4-5 on pass plays.

We still batted down numerous throws and were able to disrupt their QB anyway. We just didn't have the sacks to show for it. But, I'm fine with the way the DL played.

Sam plays the run/pass better than any DE we have, he controls the edge.

That said, he didn't have a stand out game vs North Texas but he's still elite.

I went back and looked at the stats from Ala vs. UNT last year.Amazingly UNT gave up no sacks to Ala either. We sure could use their pass blocking scheme...

We most certainly could not use N. Texas pass blocking scheme. They ran a lot of 3 step drops. Had a lot of plays with maximum protection. You guys cant bitch and moan about the lack of a deep passing game and then want to emulate what N Texas did.

The scoop is that Sonic Sam went to Coach Miles and wanted to give the start to Edwards because he is a senior and has been busting his arse for the team. That's the kinda of thing that a leader does. No in house problems or any bullshite like that. North Texas gets rid of the ball quickly so no one on defense had a sack. Relax and enjoy the season...

Watch this and tell me what you think.

Sam vs. Alabama/Georgia 2011

Tell me he is not the last DL off the ball on nearly every play.

Again, I just want to know what the scouts are looking at. Is it technique, footwork, etc.?

He is good but has always been overrated because he does a lot of interviews and pounded on the ground against Oregon. Most of his sacks are due to someone else flushing the QB into his arms 5 seconds after the ball was snapped.

Yeah, he is a projected first round draft pick in the NFL because he pounds the ground against Oregon and does alot of interviews. I pray that u aren't serious and that my sarcasm detector needs to be recalibrated.
