My son and I are driving in from Houston for the Tennessee game this Saturday. I have been telling him about the former glory days in the PMAC and how Mike would scale down a big rope to the floor for big games before player intros. Any video of this anywhere?

yea it wasn't super cool. I like the fire they've been using in pregame better than that.

In the old days supposedly it was better.

he looked like a geriatric. I thought he'd be swinging like a mad man, pumping up the crowd.

Too many safety regulations now days.

Would be better with the real tiger, like they used to do in the old days.

When they tried to slowly lower him down timed to music it was stupid. The 80s and 90s way where he repelled down very fast while fireworks were going off was awesome.

Yeah that's pretty bad, should have him flying around on cables over the crowd.

We slept out in tents to be first when Kentucky came to town. I was at this Game on the 4-5th row.

My dad used to manage the PMAC and was one of the original ones to do it. He has a picture of him mid-descent. You can tell it's him because he doesn't have Mike's feet. He's wearing some classic dad tennis shoes (plain white).

They did it just a few years ago, either against Kentucky or Oklahoma I think.

So I talked to my dad to make sure I got the story right. He was the guy that scaled the rope from 82 til 93. In 93 ROTC took over. A year or two after ROTC took over, some dude burned his hands while scaling, and I think after that, it became much less common. My dad said that in 81 (he thinks) a state trooper did it. Dad said that he had to stop the dude from jumping through the hole without buckling his belt the first time.

This is my dad some time in the mid-80s. Note the kicks.
