i'll just be hopeful that the coaches and people who want JJ to be the starter are right and we have a much more efficient team this year. regardless, we all know we'll be watching and cheering them on

JJ should be no better than an SEC backup QB. That statement is true. Who should be our starter? I don't know, but JJ is no more than a backup.

Did you watch the GA Tech game? I think many of us felt the same about JJ as the Texas fans did about Gilbert. He may flop as a sophomore. Who knows.

While Dan and I tend to usually agree, I think he's a little misguided here comparing JJ favorably to Flynn. Going strictly by stats is somewhat sophomoric. There are so many things that go into those in different seasons. Different personnel, different coaches, different opponents, etc... For example, you could argue that Flynn was part of the reason that the '07 running game was so good and JJ was partly responsible for last season's being so bad. Clearly the OL was much superior in '07, but Flynn's checking into better plays, other teams respecting his arm, etc... also factored into it. How much is impossible to know.

Also, I think JJ was throwing to a much better WR in Lafell in '09 than Flynn had. Byrd was good for what he was, so was Early, but neither one of those guys got the separation that Lafell was getting last year. (Another topic, but I think he would have put up Josh Reed type numbers if he had a Rohan or Jamarcus throwing to him. Or even a Flynn)

There's just too many variables to go strictly by stats. I defended JJ on here all last year, and don't think he was anywhere near as bad a lot of people do. And I have never been accused of being a Flynn lover by any means. I have never taken his side over Jamarcus's in any sort of debate. And I think there's a big portion of our fanbase who greatly overrate Flynn. However, there's a growing faction that completely underrate him as well. He was not average--he was a good college quarterback. Maybe even very good. And he was significantly better than Jefferson was last year. Sometimes, you just have to lose the stats and just use your eyes. And most reasonable people's eyes tell them that Flynn was better than JJ.

(though I think a lot of that has to do with Flynn being 23 compared to JJ being 19 rather than just talent. Those 4 years are huge in terms of maturity)
