Yeah, I understand this. In a lot of ways, Russell was the anti-Tyler in terms of being loved by the fanbase. A lot of it might be due to Wilt Chamberlain syndrome, where nobody likes to root for the really big tall guy with all the talent, but I think a lot of it was Russell's own fault, and the result of his own personality.
Think about it, in your heart of hearts, do you really think Russell ever liked the LSU fanbase? Do you think he ever would have really cared about LSU, even if the fans had liked him more?
I know that this is subjective stuff that's impossible to know for sure, but in my gut, I believe that there was no way that Russell was EVER going to like--or even respect--the LSU fanbase, and once you take that as a given, it's pretty understandable why so many people didn't like him given the lack of scoring in big games against Auburn, Florida, & Georgia.
I mean, in the general scheme of things, why should you like a person who doesn't like you?
