We had no business losing to Miss State, tying Tenn, and most especially losing to Tulane!

Stovall was not a good head coach. He had boocoo talent, NFL talent, two NFL backs, an all time NFL receiver and couldn't put it together consistently. That team won 8 games in spite of Stovall.

One must remember, as well, that in that span, Tulane beat LSU 3 of 4 years. Reggie Reginelli was a bad, bad man. He was Christian McCafferty before McCafferty was McCafferty. Tulane had a 24-13 beat down of LSU in the dome in 79, another 48-7 beat down of LSU in 81, and capped off the 82 senior class with the 31-28 win at Baton Rouge. Larry Gibson, the Tulane coach, wasn't very successful, but he could beat LSU. Tulane should have never fired him but he didn't meet the Tulane image. Miss St.? Yeah, no business ever losing to MSU. Good grief.

I'm good friends with Kelly Lowrey, the QB for Fla St in that game. On vacation in Fla. a few years ago, he and I talked about the oranges and how Mike the Tiger scared the living crap out of him when they came out of the tunnel before the game. He wasn't aware that they brought the tiger in his cage and tried to get Mike to roar. Mike did just as the Noles came out of the tunnel. Funny story! Kelly loves to talk about playing in Tiger Stadium. One of his favorite football memories.

That was a great scene for sure. Was great to finally hammer the Noles.

I was there. It was amazing that the students were allowed into the stadium carrying big bags of oranges!

My wife and I were just talking about things that you could do 40 years ago, and no one bothered you, or even cared. Now they would tackle you, cuff you, and throw your arse in a squad car for the very same things.

Dalton Hilliard was the difference in that game. Fla. St. had no answer for him

Yeah, you're combining Larry Smith and Vince Gibson. They were successive Tulane head coaches, and both contributed to the streak you mentioned......Larry Smith left in 1980 for the Arizona job and eventually became USC's head coach.
