Never thought i'd agree with a Bama fan, but that was a classy post. Still think they need to rotate Lee and Jefferson until someone starts producing.

very correct. Winning creates needy/whiny/douchy fanbases

Nah, Scoop has always been pretty solid. He gets to drinking a little bit and a little Bama Cowboy comes out in him. But he usually always posts the rah-rah Bama stuff with a little grain of salt.

Wow is right, how can a gump make more sense than over half the supposedly tiger fans on this board? Solid post scoop!

BamaScoop, what can I say.
I hate to admit a bammer makes sense, but damn, what you say makes sense. For the record, before I went to LSU I was a huge Bama and Bear fan. I read his book and pulled for the tide. Then I went to college at LSU and the rest is history...now I hate the tide. But, you're ok.

There's no way you're an Alabama fan 'cause you make way too much sense. I think that you summed up what most of us on this site wanted to say but didn't quite know how to. Great post. It sucks that you're a Bammer because we need more posters like you that tell it like it is and who makes sense of all this negative mess. Thanks again. Your first beer is on Raparooot.

Lets takee a look. I am a huge Coach Bryant fan and have read most books that have anything to do with his life. I know he was a drunk and probably pushed the envelope to what most would consider cheating levels but he was a hell of a football coach.
Knowing our history like I do I think there is a huge chance coach Bryant would have been fired midway through his career at Alabama due to the needy, "I want it right now" society we live in today. Just my opinion but let's see who may agree.
Coach Bryant arrived at the University of Alabama in 1958 from Texas A&M and look what happens.
1958 Season

1967 Season

This is where it gets interesting so let's take a close look at the next three years and compare it to his previous success at Alabama.
1968 Season
Coach: Paul W. “Bear” Bryant
Captains: Mike Hall, Donnie Sutton
Record: 8-3-0 (SEC: 4-2-0, t-3rd place)
1969 Season

1970 Season
Coach: Paul W. “Bear” Bryant
Captains: Danny Gilbert, Dave Brungard
Record: 6-5-1 (SEC: 3-4-0, t-7th place)
After the 1968 season the rumblings had started and as you can see the '68, '69 and '70 season were not so good for the Alabama fans and had there been an internet I am sure that the comments about his coaching ability would not have been too pleasant.
Little did the Alabama fans know that during those last two years coach Bryant had a "secret playbook" if you will. Coach Bryant, "the idiot that the game of football had passed by" was working on something in Tuscaloosa during closed practices with a young QB that, (he) not the fanbase, had faith in.
In 1971, the old drunk, cheater showed the world a little something know today as the wishbone offense and he did it all wearing his stupid Hat.
If the administration had listened to the Birmingham News sportswriters, that don't know shite about football just like all sportswriters, or worse yet to the fans that know less than the sportswriters, what would have happened at the Capstone. Lets take a look at what Alabama would have missed out on if we had fired the old drunk that had allowed the modern game of football to pass him by.
1971 Season

Captains: Johnny Musso, Robin Parkhouse
Record: 11-1-0 (SEC: 7-0-0, 1st place)

1974 Season
SEC Champions
Captains: Sylvester Croom, Ricky Davis
Record: 11-1-0 (SEC: 6-0-0, 1st place)
1975 Season

1982 Season
Captains: Eddie Lowe, Steve Mott
Record: 8-4-0 (SEC: 3-3-0, t-6th place)
His last game was the LIberty Bowl in January of 1983, coach Bryant died 6 weeks after coaching his last football game but he was a winner right up until the end. Football had not passed him by, football was his life.
Don't worry about a particular result in any given season. Have faith in your school and your system. Support your team and love your University. To the Tiger faithful, just buy your beer and whisky, keep the boudin on the grill, keep watching the band run down the hill, keep remembering what if feels like to win on a Saturday night in Tiger Stadium and keep feeding the guests.
Coach Bryant use to say, "Show class, have pride, and display character. If you do, winning takes care of itself."
He also use to tell the players, "If you believe in yourself and have dedication and pride - and never quit, you'll be a winner. The price of victory is high but so are the rewards."
This thread is not about whether or not Alabama has 12 NC's so don't argue that. It is about winning and what it takes to be a winner.
Faith!
P.S. The grass is not always greener and it still has to be mowed!!
Roll Tide!!

You did it again, Scoop! What an insightful post! Cool historical summary of the Bear and his amazing record. I hope some of our players read this. Who knows, we might even beat Bama!
Thanks again for taking time to do this and for contributing to the sanity (is that possible?) of the Rant.
I don't know, but something is telling me that there might be something special yet about this year's LSU team.
