This game against upcoming Alabama is more than for just 8-1, 2nd in the West, and for more than just a big bowl game. It's to prove a point: that we are still one of the best teams in college football.
It can also prove a much less desirable (for LSU fans) point - namely that we are no longer able to win the big games, beat the big boys, and are ready to settle into our seats at the middle/back of the SEC bus.

You are 100% right. Which is why I think winning this game, especially after losing to AU, is so important.

All im saying is we pay this coaching staff well, pay them to win championships, SEC and NC if possible. If this staff is constantly second fiddle in the west now, what do we do?

So you basically picked up your fandom around 2000, I envy you that all you know is the last decade. I had to be a fan when LSU absolutely sucked...we were pumped as hell to camp out overnight for Independence Bowl tickets. Don't get me wrong I don't wanna go back to that in any way, but it does remind me of perspective.

I agree the staff is overpaid for the results.

I was REALLY young but I remember the '90s. I was in Death Valley when we took out No. 1 UF. I was only 4 yeah, but I remember chaos, pandemonium, goal posts crashing down...I fricking fell in love!

Fire Les and pay the next guy ten times as much.

Where do you get 2nd fiddle BTW? Weren't we 3rd and worse the past couple years?

Our offense is much worse than mediocre, just look at the conference and national rankings. Our defense will only keep us in so many games against quality opponents. Good D + Bad O = average.

I was in the student section for that game, one of the best memories of my life. To have that be one of your earliest memory of LSU football, and to have it only get better from there, awesome.

Weren't we the third place overall SEC team last year behind only Fla. and Bama?

If LSU beats Bama it can shake the mediocre label. Until it does, it is going to be seen as second tier SEC.

It was one of the best days of my childhood. Ever since then, I've not missed a single game. But I think we are going to beat another top ranked team in 2 weeks. There is just too much going on not to beat Bama.

No the record is not; but I'm looking past the wins and losses and looking at our opponets and our level of play and it screams mediocrity or worse on offense.

As the record goes, it's good. But the way we arrived there is really BAD! Does anyone see improvement from the beginning of this season?

I really think the salary is a great point. we have the highest paid staff in the country. The truth is expectations are great if you are getting paid. Save the: we are 7-1, I'll take 9-3 remember when .... The standard has been set and the current coaches are being paid to that high standard. Deliver or go home.

Overall, I think this is a huge game and provided we can get some kind of working offense with two weeks to prepare

We've had two years to fashion some sort of offense with zero results and you hope we can get it done in two weeks?
