This link is from an outside source, not local news. The first part is about the North Boulevard riot. The part toward the end about the Southern shooting by state police. That Baton Rouge was a hell of a lot safer than today. As in the majority of riots, outside forces are the cause. It was peaceful before a handful of them arrived. Had a relative at that meeting with Woody and police. After the camera stopped rolling, Woody gave the order about the curfew, shoot to kill. No one was shot, people heeded the curfew, black and white. It was tense for awhile after.

I remember the police chief was a friend of family or something, and he didn’t realize the out of state black panthers involvement. He made comment like “these are my N word” or something like that, and thought he could calm everyone down etc. I thought they shot him too or something. There were tons of bomb threats or something too.

I was a student at twin oaks elementary back then. My grandfather made my mom bring us to his house and out of Baton Rouge. They were trying to start a race riot or something, and everyone was arming themselves etc. It’s a miracle it didn’t get much much worse
