No, on the spin move, he left the RT in the dust and accidentally struck Locker on the head and got the penalty.
Yes, he did you are correct. But he blew the play by getting the penalty, because that got them a first down, just like his boneheaded move of kicking the ball against ARKY that later cost us the game.

I couldn't care less about some 5 yard scramble Locker had due to Alem getting too far upfield. It's all about QB pressure.
It's not just the QB pressure, he overruns the RB coming out of the backfield. This is what is allowing most of the first down runs that come to his side of the field. I must have counted 5 times that he did this.

The worst overrun of the night was by far Aghayere on that 4th down play
Agreed. That gave Locker and easy 1st down and they converted the garbage TD on the next play I think.

Why wouldn't we throw downfield? Jefferson hit a 40 yard + TD pass to Lafell in both of his starts last year.
Maybe if we are way ahead like with GT, there's no risk. But against SEC teams I do not see us having a big downfield passing game (more than 20 yards).

Just a slow start, we'll be fine!
Agree it doesn't look as bad in the light of day as it did last night, but the performance was still below LSU standards.

This was obvious to me as well.

I watched it again (sober this time)...

-JJ was great. However he is the leader of LSU and needs to better protect himself.
-I was disppointed in the o-line
-Our playcalling was awful
-Defensively, we were agressive early, got burned twice, and backed off and went very conservative
-Peterson is a beast. Enjoy him for the next two years
-I expected more out of Chad Jones. He was out of position and missed a few tackles
-Where the frick was Shep? Were we that vanilla that we didn't even want him on the field?

According to Rantard theory, we are saving him for the Florida game.

Despite all that being true, he was by far the best player we had on defense in the Arky game. We all know he had a temper problem in the past, I'm just not going to hold it against him anymore. Tremaine Johnson's penalty in that game I consider worse considering he wasn't half the player Alem is.

Actually, he maintained his gap the entire night. People don't realize that a DL is only responsible for his gap. On the play where he went outside the TE for example, the fault was of both Coleman and McCray considering neither of them were blocked and they both missed the tackle. Alem did his job on that play, Coleman wasn't aggressive enough as a LB.

What risk? It's either caught or it's going to be incomplete. What CB in the county is going to outjump TT or Lafell?

If not for the Trindon run play, we don't get the perfect set on the PA to him followed by the swing pass to Toliver for the TD.

The playcalling was bad for most of the game, but it showed flashes. It's a first game, and the team will improve.

Agree you can look at the Trindon plays as "setups", however i am sure they were not set up to actually lose yardage. They were set up to make Trindon a wild card so that they defense would have to respect him...that worked, but the actual play where Trindon got the ball (twice) did not.

They are not going to let him throw with abandon until he gets a bit more experience, I'm sure of it. As long as the running game is sound and the short passing game is there, I don't see it except against the cupcakes.

The deep threats would be TT and RR, though, not LaFell.

Lafell was the deep threat against Arky (close game) and GTech. He has better speed than TT IMO (hopefully TT proves me wrong on that).

That may be part of the problem right now. Lafell may be our fastest WR, but he's too busy playing in the slot in 3 WR sets.

Hopefully we ease Randle in more. Chris Mitchell is just a "meh" as a player. Not bad at all, but not a difference maker either.

# 3 for Washington was holding Hawkins on the big screen. No call.
on first td, Hawkins was again held by #1 this time from washington.

After watching the game a second time, I agree with everything. I would, however, add that Hebert was pushed back several times. Is this due to poor technique? Or is he too light or weak? Seems as if he could do a lot better. I will say though that I don't know anything about blocking. It is simply an obsevation

This should never have to happen w/ the talent we have at running back. I don't like the qb running.

The coaching and play calling were piss poor.

Play calling is always going to be conservative in the first game of the year. Offenses usually don't click until week two or three. Our offense made strides from the first half to the second half. They'll look a lot better next week. I swear, I think some of you have never watch football before.

I agree that Chris Hawkins is a liability on defense. As previously stated, he cannot shed a block to save his life. And if he is unblocked, he seems very reluctant to lower his head and make a tackle. You cannot have a dominant defense with players who are afraid of contact.

However, Hawkins inability to play tough does not shock me considering his slight stature. The guy who really concerns me the most on the LSU defense at this point is Chad Jones. As the old saying goes, he looks like Tarzan but plays like Jane. For a guy with his size and speed, he plays very soft.

2. D-Line gets a good push, but gets too far upfield.

One guy spying on Locker would have solved MANY problems last night.

Had they pulled in McCray or Jones to sit 5 yards downfield and wait for Locker to step up through the rush, we would have killed them on defense.

So, PLEASED with the rush, because we got way in the backfield and caused the pocket to collpase many times.

DISPLEASED with the scheme for a quarterback who could run much better than maybe we gave him credit for.

Kinda like SECCG 2001. Yikes!
