.. when I was a kid I remember going to LSU games and always heard this guy hollering TIGER BAIT that seemed to resonate throughout the stadium. I would always ask my dad (R.I.P.) who that was hollering and he would tell me it was "BIG RED". Does anyone know what happened to him or is he still around or was my dad making up the whole thing ?

Not sure what decade you were a kid in but I remember going to games in the 70's, sitting on the east side, & hearing some guy with a RESOUNDING voice always giving the "TIGER BAIT" to opposing teams. Not sure if it was the same guy but he was a huge part of tradition. To this day, I still holler "TIGER BAIT" when the opposing team comes on the field, it is what I grew up knowing & it stuck. I wish more people held to the tradition & would give up the boo-that's pretty generic & lame.

I was born in 1978. I started going to games in the early 80's and yes you are right, it was TIGER BAIT he was yelling. I swear you could hear him across the stadium.

That's the same guy. Don't know if my Dad ever knew the guys name but, as a kid, visiting Mike's cage before the game, watching pre=game warm ups, & hearing that guy TIGER BAIT the opposing team was always an awesome experience.

Sid Crocker and Big Red - Some great memories growing up as a Tiger fan. I do know Big Red was delivering the Times Picayune in Baton Rouge - came to the house and asked my folks if they wanted to renew their subscription. I thought that was soooo cool.

Dont know him personally but used to sell peanuts in Tiger Stadium from 77-80 and would always go to the North End Zone before games to sell just to hear him. Started going to basketball games in 78 and he was even louder in the closed roof and smaller Assembly Center. He was a legendary fan and there should be some type of memorial to him on his Tiger Stadium seat. I believe he would be at an age that is more than likely he has passed on and if so R.I.P. Big Red you were a true Tiger and if he is still among us God Bless.

I remember even that you could hear him over the radio broadcasts in the late 60's and 70's. I remember hearing him in the Stadium through 81 as a student but don't remember hearing him after I graduated.

I second that motion!

I also think that we should honor "Big Red" & bring back his battle cry of "TIGER BAIT" when the opposing team comes out. Lose the "Boo", Big Red didn't boo!

Lungs of leather-you could hear him all over the PMac, and he was not a young man, even in the late 70's.

He was a delivery person for the Morning Advocate - I believed he passed away in late 89 or early 90.

I remember hearing him as a kid. I didn't know he sat in the north endzone though.. I guess I just assumed he sat around us in the south endzone because it sounded like he was sitting close by. He wouldn't just yell "Tiger Bait" like we are used to hearing it now.. he had a distinct way of yelling it that set him apart from everybody else. I can still hear him today

I'm glad he passed on before witnessing the hell that was the Hallman years.
