I agree with this. It's not about "it's not your money who cares" it's "are you going to pay a guy so much that he checks out day 1 on the job".
Seriously. BK did exactly this. He was immediately hands off at LSU despite his time at ND. He got ultra lazy and CEO'd everything...for 10 million a year. He did everything enough to just get employed another year.
How do you know where Lane's head is in the game at that kind of money? You're going to have to guarantee him that money. Incentive contracts will not sign him over. Like BK you set him up for immediate retirement. Does he hunger for something bigger or does he check out day 1? These coaching contracts are out of control.
