Not directly, but who do you think is funding it? It’s LSU grads, AKA people who have paid tuition, who have made donations to the LSU foundation in the past, even those who haven’t. They are not just going after wealthy boosters anymore. They are going for a broader reach because they can’t keep hitting up the same guys every year just to go 9-3. It’s not sustainable.

I can 100% guarantee that several dudes in this thread are middle class / upper middle class and have been approached for NIL donations recently and NIL seems to be taking priority over the LSU foundation. They are not the same thing.

I’ve been told that other universities that don’t have the wealthy boosters that A&M has, have taken this approach and had success doing it. Maybe we’ll be OK. Who knows.

So anyone who says the annoying phrase “it’s not your money” to every single person on this board that expresses concern, they’re just talking out of their asses. I’m not, however. This isn’t something my dead grandmother told me.

Maybe not but there wouldn’t be an LSU brand worth funding NIL for if it wasn’t for the alum and fans.

We are getting it from the most passionate fan base in college football and a commitment to not wasting it on portal risk.

Saving the money we did chasing average DL this spring was genius. And I’m including Walter Nolan because he simply wasn’t worth his asking price based on production.

The “boosters” term is becoming outdated. Despite what you geniuses think when you say “it’s not your money”, they are targeting more normal-money people now, some undoubtedly posting in this thread, and seem to be placing an emphasis on NIL over the LSU foundation (“seem” may be an understatement). To be honest, it’s a little infuriating. Normal people are being asked to prioritize their donations to NIL, effectively paying money just so it can be less of a college sport, and to miss the CFP.

We do not have unlimited big booster money and it is delusional to think the relatively small amount of big time boosters (compared to A&M, Texas, Michigan, etc) we have will perpetually pay 17 year olds, who haven’t played a single down, boatloads of money just to go 9-3 and lose the first fricking game of the season 3 years in a row. It just isn’t sustainable. BK has done a great job but we just threw away a fricking Heisman trophy winner and a surefire CFP appearance because of a guy BK hired.

We are at best middle of the pack money-wise in the SEC, and something will have to change for us to structurally compete long term. Maybe the broader reach approach will work.

Once a salary cap is established, teams can once again cheat by sweetening the pot under the table.

Is a salary cap coming or is that bullshite. This WR getting fricking 1.3m before even playing a down is absurd. Who can even compete with that shite.

It takes money to make money. You have to invest/spend money to see a return, and those 17-year-old kids are the best investments LSU fans can make.

LSU fundraising, applications, and enrollment swell with LSU football success. Emmert recognized that simple facts decades ago. And while those 17-year-old players might not have played a single down in college, they proved in high school that they are worth the investment. Not every NFL rookie pans out; not every five-star recruit pans out. But LSU makes hundreds of millions of dollars based upon the way those 17-year-olds work and play. They are indisputably worth it.
