Real question. With no restrictions on transfers, what is stopping a signee from switching schools before the season begins?

quote:

A Letter of Intent is a legally-binding contract which says that you will attend that college for a minimum of 1 academic year in exchange for an athletic scholarship. Once you sign a LOI, the recruiting process is over. No other college is allowed to recruit you.

Nothing. It’s just dumb to waste your 1 free transfer before you step foot on campus.

It means about as much as “committed”. That is until it’s “decommitted” and “respect my decision”.

I’m guessing a one-year contract.
