The dude blows up blockers and is pretty damn quick to the ball.

at 6'1", 225 how much more weight do you expect him to add?

I can see that

but really how much of an athlete is he? great front-line speed for a big man is pointless without good hips, athleticism, etc.

I want LBs with athleticism that can break down and make tackles against SEC RBs in space... lately, we've had some that grade-out ok on paper until they get onto the field and aren't quick or athletic enough to make plays against legit SEC ball carries

not sure how much he'll grow as a person, but even at 6 foot he should be able to add 20+ pounds without a problem with his frame

Lots of time speed, can be a joke. Linemen in the 40, etc. One of the slower Safetys to play at LSU, Ryan Clark. Guess what he did last year?
He was signed by the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2002. Undrafted, many said because he was too slow to play in the NFL.

And again, don't get me started on height.

Watch that hit he put on the redemptorist running back in the semi-finals on the 1 yard line with time expired which sent Notre Dame to the Dome.

No shite. Yes, I know for a fact that Welter is not that much faster than Knowshon Moreno (ran a 4.57). And I know that Welter is not as fast as Pat White (clocked at same time as supposedly Welter). 40 times for HS recruits....very disreputable.

That being said, I like Welter and I'm sure he has good speed for a LB...just not 4.48.

I've been reading this thread since it started and i have a close friend on the coaching staff at ND. LSU and Mizzou has offered DJ today. And yes, he did run a 4.5 in front of the LSU Coaching staff at last years summer camp. I went to nearly ever home game last year, and he is a hell of a player. Great football IQ, always around the ball. He played with another really good LB Seth Furge (perfered walk on this year at LSU) and to me stood out above him. Thats just my opinion, i'm no expert. But i do know he was offered today by both schools and i believe he has an offer to Texas A&M too.

Sorry, don't believe it. Its been proven over and over again. Guys that supposedly ran 4.4 and 4.5 end up being clocked at 4.6 and later.

Welcome aboard DJ!! As a Notre Dame alum it's great to see a kid from Notre Dame get an LSU scholarship. You've got a few great ND players to follow in Tommy and Jackie Casanova. I hope your LSU career is a great one!
