Miles was good about having kickers on scholarship, but he couldn't evaluate them too well. He got enamored with big legs on guys with huge accuracy and/or technique issues. I don't believe Hairston and Gamble kicked a single field goal at LSU. Jasper was really the only good scholarship out of HS kicker in Miles tenure, and they offered Crutchfield the same year and were bound to hit on one.
