Tulane DT Jeffrey Johnson picks Oklahoma...

...we had him in for a visit this week.
Johnson going to Oklahoma suggests to me that Mekhi Wingo is about to commit to LSU. That might be wrong but it doesn't feel that way.

I hope you are right.
Seems like they are both takes.
Johnson is like 315 and wingo is 280. Room for both imo.
I think he might've just picked oklahoma over lsu.

Yeah, but with Evans coming back I don't think you have room for two portal DT's.
Seems like you'd take one. You maybe would get a high school guy to develop along with Tygee Hill but that's about it.
I think it's Wingo. I think he commits here when he's done with this last visit he's on.

I just don't see them turning him down.
They are 2 completely different players.
Joseph evans quit on the team to go sing last year. I think he will be back but even with him dl will be getting thin next year
Just think how good the d line was this year being able to rotate.
Who knows if they are going to run a predominantly odd front.
If they are still running an even front i think they would easily take both. Johnson is only a 1 yr guy. Wingo is a freshman.

We will still need 1-2 more DT for the switch to a 3 man front.

Not if you view that 3 man front as including Gaye, Fonua, Cherry, Savion Jones and Quincy Wiggins at one of the positions.

Cherry?
Jones and quincy wiggins can't be counted on yet.
Jones actually got snaps last year but you could tell he was too small and overpowered.

I'm hardly suggesting Cherry is going to start.
The two-deep would be Gaye and Fonua, both of whom could handle the position. Jones, with an off-season in the weight room, could get close enough to be a third string option.
What I might consider doing with Cherry is to look at him as a tight end. He's 6-2, 259, which is decent size for the position, we know he's strong and he has some speed. I doubt he'd be much of a receiver, but I imagine he could be a pretty good inline blocker.

Bro. Cherry is a lost cause.
That dude can barely move and you want to make him a tight end.
What do gaye and fonua have to do with taking johnson and wingo?
My whole point was i don't think they passed on johnson.

There have been lots of lost causes who found new life at other positions.
Look at Carnell Stewart. Kenny Davidson. Hell, JC Copeland.
Cherry ran track in high school. He's not a pillbox. He doesn't get off the ball well as a DE, but maybe that's less of a problem when he knows the snap count.
What does it hurt to try him at tight end?
