He is listed as a LB and I was under the impression he would be looked at LB first. Has he changed his mind and wants to play DE?

Yes. The coaches originally wanted him at LB but he wants to play DE and the coaches agreed to let him start there. He'll never make it to LB. He's an elite pass rusher and fits what we like too well to move to LB.

Sout says olb and de. He mentioned lsu having best dline and best defense in country. So i only assume hes gonna play de for us. Didnt mention anything about linebacker.

Seemed like a good kid...it was a longshot for us, but he's a player worth the effort.

Wish him the best of luck at LSU.

Having the season we had helps. We get a 8-9chance win season here and there and sure la kids will look at texas, ou, bama, auburn, florida, fsu.

Not too sure about the idea of Mingo in coverage. I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere about trying that with Mingo and the result was not very good.

Why would lsu play 3-4? We play what our dc wants to play. There is a reason we pay him. Chavis has been very successful. 3 years later after he has a full defensive roster of guys he wants, see what happens.

I read your other post about how this board is for discussion and while that's true, what could possibly leave any LSU fan wishing we played a different defense than our current defense? It's beyond comprehension to wish for something like that. Further, outside of this year, Louisiana produces very few linebacker prospects and far more defensive line prospects that changing to that formation makes even less sense. So discuss what you want, but there is no reason why any sane LSU fan would want a defensive change at this point.

The 3-4 has it's advantages but we don't have the LBs to play a 3-4 and the kids coming in at LB aren't the type of LBs that would fit the 3-4. We do have the ends that would be great 3-4 outside LBs though in Mingo,Rasco and Montgomery. Those 3 are what Jack LBs are but they do lack the size of the Bama jacks. The 4-3 we run is perfect for our personnel(of course we've recruited for that) and our 4-3 allows us to play the run well even while playing in nickel a ton with Mathieu or Brooks blitzing off the edge.

The reason Mingo is at DE is because of his lack of coverage skills. He has the speed and athleticism to play OLB but in space he had his difficulties so he plays DE. He was recruited to play LB. Davis is much in the same boat but has shown that he can play in space(at camp this summer). The fact that he can play OLB is a bonus but he's just too good off the edge as a pass rusher to not play at DE. He's got special speed and 1st step quickness as a pass rusher.
