Louisiana politics has been running businesses out of Louisiana and towards Texas for decades--tell us somthing we don't know.

AND, the CyFair ISD is bankrupt and that stadium is part of the reason why. their teachers not only haven't been getting raises but none are in sight. they are leaving for other districts whenever they can. as bad as Louisiana is about putting football over academics, Texas is worse. High school football is king over here. I don't care what anyone says, Texas public ed is not that good. of course, some of the schools are but many are not (just like louisiana). Texas has the least percentage of its population with high school degrees of any state in the nation and its getting worse, much worse. the latino enrollment in HISD is over 50% of the enrollment and many of those do not even speak english and no english is spoken in their homes. just like in louisiana, there are pockets of good schools, mostly in the affluent burbs, but education minded parents go for the private schools. there is not as big of a parochial school influence over here. myth's need to be dispelled. anyways, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL, esp LSU fans.

the key words are

INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICTS!

We can't have em because unconstitutional so we get to destroy our public school systems in the cities, New Orleans, Baton Rouge etc.. while in TX each neighborhood is its own district. The money stays right at home.

Amen.

Take the small schools for example.

Start at Merryville on the Sabine River. Athletics-wise, you are in a third-world country.

Go across the river 15 miles to Newton, Texas--a podunk town of 2400.

You have a world-class football program.

Texas HS football--ESPECIALLY the small schools--is so much better than La., it's almost inconceivable.

My kids go to TWHS. My son plays in that stadium for some of his 9th grade games and my daughter swims at the swimming facility. They are both extremely nice and are used by all of the schools in Conroe ISD. Yes, property taxes are high but the money goes to good use in all aspects of the public education system from K-12.

sorry pops but you have no idea what you're talking about. Texas, along with those other three states, have some of the lowest state tax levels in the country.

state tax burdens

how does whether or not people are staying in school reflect the quality of the schooling? A lot of this has to do with the number of immigrants in texas anyways, and compare Tx education rankings with other states bordering mexico - it's not even close. Compare the minority education levels b/t texas and LA.

you're basically just taking you're own experience or observation and applying it to the entire state education system. Poorly performing schools in densely populated or low income areas like HISD are exceptions to the general statewide quality level.

you'd better hope you get paid more over here so you too can pay these taxes

No hoping about it. Lets see, teach in public school in Louisiana and make 40,000 a year or go to east Texas and make 55,000 - 60,000 as an assistant coach early in your career. It's a cold hard fact that you get paid much better to coach and teach in Texas opposed to Louisiana. The coaching stipends in Texas are much higher in Texas. It's one of the reason's football is so competitive over there because you actually get paid to coach and if you don't produce they find someone else. The highest paid Head Football coach and NON athletic director in Texas is being paid 140,000 a year. If he was an athletic director it's even more money. No comparison.

I lived in Katy Texas for 11 years. The District Stadium concept is one example they do right, but make no mistake they all have excellent sports facilities. The taxes are really not that bad and equal out. You pay school and county taxes which could run about 5-6K a year for a decent neighborhood. In Ascension Parish (EA High School after Rezoning) we pay 2000 property and witht my salary easily make it up in state. We live comfortably, but are not rich.
