This is exactly what I'm saying. I wish we had
quote:

statistics on how many scholarships have been wasted on "dual-threats" who never saw the field because they just flat-out could not play the quarterback position at the college level. A quarterback needs leadership skills, pocket presence, an accurate arm and good decision-making skills. I don't give a damn about his time in the 40 or his running skills unless I'm playing a video game.

Just curious, do you feel there are any "Pocket passer" type QBs who "just flat-out could not play the quarterback position at the college level"? Do you believe that the label "pocket passer" imbues that player with "leadership skills, pocket presence, an accurate arm and good decision-making skills"? Do you believe "dual threat" QBs don't or can't have those skills? Do you feel the faster the QB, the smaller his brain?

I believe that finding the "total package" like some of the true dual threats mentioned in this thread is extremely difficult and very hit and miss. I do not like the idea of designing an offense around one player. I do not like so much of a burden being placed on one player. I do not think that an option style offense is necessary, desirable, or very effective against fast, athletic defenses.

If a quarterback can run, and is just as good in the pocket as a pro style guy, then hell yes I'd prefer him. We humans tend to sacrifice proficiency and development in a given skill as we branch out, though, and that is the extent of my concern.
