What about LSU's HC? Coaching and recruiting the DL was his ONLY notable skill prior to being named HC. Yes, I know Ed has to focus on the overall recruiting of all positions now, but it's not as if during practice he's bouncing around actively coaching the QB's, DB's, WR's, etc. He's not coordinating the gameplans on either side of the ball. In short, he's still just the DL coach who also happens to be the HC.
Did Ed forget how to recruit D-linemen? It would be one thing if his WR coach was struggling to bring in WR's. In that scenario it would be hard to expect a career DL coach to jump in and start selling his experience (or lack thereof) coaching WR's. It's quite another though when your HC also has a 30 year career coaching/recruiting the DL. It's not ALL on the young DL coach

Ish hasn't told LSU anything yet, but I am pretty confident on Ish signing with Bama.
Though I don't think Rodney was going to announce anything regardless of if Ish ended up going with LSU or not.
