Saban made a late push for Chris Garrett, according to Guilbeau in his Gannett column:
John Wilbert expanded in his column for Tupelo's Daily Journal:
Got to love Chris Garrett's dedication and loyalty:
Sorry if Germans. I just discovered this when I was reading about each of our commitments.
quote:
Miles beat Saban head-to-head in recent weeks for Randle, Mingo and Tupelo quarterback Chris Garrett, whom Alabama made a late run at. Saban beat Miles on five players, but none as sought after as Randle.
John Wilbert expanded in his column for Tupelo's Daily Journal:
quote:
Ironically, Alabama head coach Nick Saban, when visiting with Golden Wave receiver Chad Bumphis at the high school on Tuesday, asked Tupelo High head coach Eric Collins about Garrett's commitment to LSU. Collins then explained to Saban how Alabama was Garrett's first choice before committing to MSU, and that Collins and Garrett had spoken with the Alabama offensive coordinator at the time to see if the Tide were interested. "We called Alabama and Major Applewhite said point blank that he wasn't interested and didn't think that he could play in the SEC," Collins said. "Game over." Saban's response, according to Collins, was that his program now has a new offensive coordinator in Jim McElwain and "Coach McElwain loves the guy." "I said, I will mention it to Chris, and if there's any ray of hope I will let you know, but I can tell you now that I believe that Chris is solid with LSU.'"
Got to love Chris Garrett's dedication and loyalty:
quote:
"It's just a dream come true. I'm just going to take full advantage of it."

i don't blame him. garrett has such tremendous size for a qb with the arm strength to match! can make all the throws needed and has the tools to be a terrific pocket passer. he's definitely a sleeper in this year's class. garrett >>> jpw. he would fit alabama's offense really nicely.
we have some serious qb depth now. and this guy could have easily gone to another school to compete for a starting job as a freshman. got to respect the fact he welcomes competition and competing against the best of the best.

It's funny how he tells his committed recruits you should not go back on your word and tries to get other recruits to break their word to other schools.
The "Slick Nick" name sticks for a reason.

Sounds like a guy who is not afraid of a little competition. Good catch by Miles.

He sounds quite the opposite of Randle when it comes to competition.
