The movement has been discussed in various threads prior, but does anyone know what potential reasons Rivals could have for dropping Diarse & Jones. Diarse falls from #11 to #29 in the position ranking while Melvin Jones falls from the #16 MLB to #24.

Outside of "giving LSU their due" because of the rise of other LSU commits up the charts, are there legit reasons why these two fell in the rankings? Were either hurt over the summer?

You worry too much about a rankings number. Who cares about a players ranking. I care about how he does when he gets on the field. Rankings are so over blown. Its 1 persons opinion.

Someone posted that Rivals reason for Diarse's drop was because he isn't as fast or as explosive as they expected. I've had my rant on that one in the 250 thread. He basically showed and showed exactly what he is, an undereneath receiver that will catch everything, get open and provide run after catch. His ability is better with pads on.

As far as Jones, I think it has to do with him being overweight at our camp and not quite performing how he's capable. He'll be fine. One of my favorites in the class regardless of what Rivals thinks.

Do people really expect anything else than bad or erratic ranking from Rivals?

They have became the new Scout in the paysite world ...

You're gonna hear alot of "rankings don't matter" but I know what you're asking bro. Perhaps they didn't have the performance in camps that the scouts thought they were capable of having. I haven't heard of any injuries but remember the drop in rankings could be more from another player showing out all summer and moving up rather than our guys just dissapointing scouts.

I think Rivals is #2 (who does number 2 work for) among the sites, behind 247.

Scout and ESPN are more on par to me.

I personally don't give a crap is someone drops a few or moves up a few. I use rivals etc to just get an idea. They say #50 for example. In my mind that at best/most accurate you can expect means he is somewhere between #10 and #100!

There is just no way to rank each player down to the spot, 1,2,3, etc accurately. I don't fault them for trying, it serves a purpose, but rankings aren't all that accurate. Just use the ranking as a starting point then you have to read up on the guy watch his film and consider level of competition and see his offer sheet and then make your own conclusions.

Legit question, just expressing my opinion.

Great post Omega. Exactly how I feel about recruiting rankings. They're just a baseline. I follow my own eyes and the word of people that I truly trust with evals. In the end, if we're happy, the rankings are meaningless. Last year's class was a great example. I was thrilled with the class, though the rankings services weren't as kind. Huge potential in the '12 class and it's showing in practices.
