Josh/Abram Booty-led mid-90s Evangel teams
Yeah the ones that were whooping up on Longview and shite.......They lined up the qb 7 yards behind the line of scrimmage and flung the rock. Ranked in the nations top 10.........

Wouldn't happened against the onside kicking of SP.
That shite was ground breaking.

Plus the SPHS is not just flashy, although they are not that big overall, SP is a tough, physical team.
Certainly true, but people forget just how much sheer size ECA had back then. I mean, they were lining up dudes like Byron Dawson on both sides of the ball on a yearly basis.
It's an interesting scenario. I take back my initial blowout thoughts. It might be pretty close.
Still taking ECA though.

I'm with you..........can you imagine SP onside kicking to Evangel and giving them 50 yard fields 5 times?
They never got 1 onside in the state championship game and the 1 kick they actually kicked like a legititment football team got returned on them.

LOOK UP THE 1997 SOUTHERN LAB KITTENS THAT HAD 13 D1A PROSPECTS ON THEIR ROSTER INCLUDING SPEARS. They played a loaded Kentwood team into 3 OTs to win. That Kentwood team had Hookfin and a few other studs.
Neither of these teams had a freaking kicker. It was comical watching them try to kick extra points in that game. You're right though - tons of talent in that game.

Well John Simon played for the Tennessee on that team......I remembered him late last night.......don't worry I'm going to list them for you soon enough.
John Simon played for the Titans for three years before blowing out his knee....
SO that makes 2 NFL players on 1 1A team......

So I got two NFL players and just 11 cfb players to find.......it's too bad that in 1996 the internet wasn't yet a daily staple in our lives.

Ask Gary Crowton.......He probably took like 3 or 4 players from their offense alone.

My old high school played South Plaquemines in the Quarterfinals this year and lost 66-7. I made the trip to Port Sulphur to watch the game, and came away very impressed with them.
Ridge Turner was a beast in the game. He made our d look plain silly and made our best player who made all-state in 1A look lost a number of times. He sat in the shotgun all game and would just outrun our D on QB Draws and sweeps. He also had a stronger arm than I thought and hooked up with Syevlie(sp)twice for touchdowns. Syevlie also threw a touchdown pass to Turner.
The game was really closer than the score would indicate. South plaquimenes returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, and then my school Block Bears running back John Bloodshaw had a run of about 45 yards for a touchdown. That cut the lead to 8-7. Next kickoff Syvelie ran it all the way back for a touchdown again, and that was a wrap for my bears.
After the game was over I got a chance to go on the field and get to speak to Turner who was sitting on the ground taking off the tape around his ankles and wished him luck in the title game. He was a really nice kid. Also got to talk to number 2 who I can't remember his name. Number 5 Fitt, and I also got to talk to Crutchfield and Syvelive.
The only thing about South Plaquemines I didn't like. Their fans are very classeless. I am not one to really complain about fan behavior, but to talk smack over the PA system was a bit too much for me.
